On my '84, the speedo itself has the speed sensor built into it.  Not sure on an '82 though.

If you know for sure you need the VSS that you ordered and that it will work, follow your diagram.  You may physically have to run wires.  Be sure to loom it and solder/seal all connections.  No crimp/butt/crap connectors...

Toyota factory uses non insulated crimp connectors though. I searched high and low for those da** connectors.
I'm about 4 days from trying to fire my engine? Hope I got it right on the wiring. I am trying to keep the cruise control and a/c from '98 donor.
