'89 4runner 3.0 Tranny Swap Questions
« on: Jun 02, 2008, 10:30:17 PM »
I'm thinking of buying an '89 SR5 4runner with an overdrive auto tranny and a 3.0 V6 3vze. I'd much rather have a 5 spd. I know that on the 22RE the auto tranny electronics are pretty much separate from the engine controls. Is it the same case with the 3vze? When I swapped a 5spd into a 22RE 4runner i just had to fool the engine computer into thinking that the vehicle is neutral all the time. -- Matt

Similar situation with the 3.0 and the 5spd.  :thumb:s

Do you mean you've got an auto tranny rig that needs swapping too, or that you agree with jimbo74?  I have done the swap in a 22RE powered pickup; it was pretty easy. I was just wondering if it's much different with the 3.0.  I already own the factory manual and the Toyota wiring manual, I should sit down and spend some "quality time with them ;).

3.0 = bad. 3.0 + auto = really bad , but 3.0 4runner makes good candidate for 3.4 swap.

I already found an R150F transmission and t-case for $250 about an hour away from where I live. Now I'm looking for a shifter boot, boot retainer, clutch pedal assembly, ect.
