I just got my Tax Refund!!!!!!!!! What should I BUY?
« on: Apr 24, 2008, 10:47:01 AM »
Hey Everyone, I just got my tax refund, and being the truck-obsessed Marlin Junkie that I am I  have spend it on the old Yoat! What should I buy!!!! I'm leaning personally towards an Aussie for the rear, because I'm running open diffs with 4.88s right now. But, there are also many more options to explore! I'm just wondering what all of my fellow Yota/Marlin Enthusiasts think. Another alluring one would be a dual t-case, but that would require much more funds/time.
By the time I get the money for an SAS I'll be 65 at this rate!

:psss: Detroit locker

Why do that when a pair of aussies isn't a whole lot more money and they don't have the failure rates when an axle is blown?  Seems retarded to buy a detroit and have it turn into a $450 paper weight.....
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Yeah, If I buy a locker, it's gonna be an Aussie. My neighbors broken a Detriot and then he replaced it with an Aussie as a cheap temporary fix because he didn't think it would last. Then he's had it for like 3 years now, lol.

I know lots of people that run both.  The aussies don't seem to have the same the bad quirks that the detroits do.  No snap bang jerk after and during corners.  I have a couple buddies that have blown detroits.  My first buddy was the unlucky one, the secone buddy got the bad detroit from him and used it for parts to fix his busted one.  Damned cheater. :hahaha:

Someone asked me the other day "What is the ultimate goal of a trail rig?"

The answer?

Thats the ultimate in bang for the buck.  I ran a lockrite in the HP front and a welded rear till I broke the POS lockrite and got a helluva deal on a HP cable converted E-locker. :)

Aussie and a :turtle: rear bumper. I love my Marlin rear bumper, it has saved my bed many a time! And the aussie will probably be my next mod depending upon if its going to stay my DD or not.

BTW the truck is a daily driver... the welded rear sounds cool but will the truck even turn on the street? Also is it much harder to install the Aussie in the front than the rear?

I think lockers made the biggest difference in my wheeling experience, but seriously spend it on a chick with huge knockers because some of these trails you can finish stock.

So what is involve d in installing the locker in the front that isn't in the rear? and yeah, the last option sounds VERY tempting!

X's 2

I ran a welded rear on my mustang for 3 years and I did not really even  :blah: notice the "EXTREAM" tire wear that most people talk about. I think alot of folks "know a Guy" that ran a welded rear and it ate his tires. I call B.S.  I run an aussie in the front and welded in the rear and have had zero issues and my rig is a DD.

It seems to me it would depend on how much you got in your refund.

If you only got $300 then Aussie the rear and buy some fuel with the change...

If you got a large chunk of money then a pair of ARBs and some body armor would be on the list.

So, how much of your money do we get to spend?  :disturbed:
'82 pickup, +3, locked, doubled
'82 pickup, IFS long travel, V8
'85 4runner, V8 rock crawler
'88 X-cab, V6
