Thorley Header - Couple of Questions
« on: Apr 11, 2008, 05:05:12 PM »
I bought a nice Thorley header for my 87 a while back from someone here.

I emailed them and they have yet to return my emails after wo days, so I'm asking here instead.

The Header in question is a 22RE model with the O2/smog fittings but not the air injection.  This sounded perfect since it also is CA smog approved.

On their website it didn't a while back but now has a footnote:

Notes

    * 22 - For Legality under CARB regulations the connector/Y-pipe assembly must be used on vehicles originally equipped with catalytic converter.
    * 3 - Stick Only.
    * 19- Does not fit 5-speed models w/ hydraulic clutch.

I'm confused.  :dunno:  Why do they think it won't fit?  Is it a matter of  :flamer: a heat shield somewhere or moving a line or something, or is it just impossible to make fit?

Were there manual 4Runners (they all appear to be 5 speeds) that didn't have hydraulics on the clutches?  #3 and #19 seem to conflict.

Also, do I need some sort of heat shield?  I'm a bit worried about it putting of tons of heat under the hood.

I guess I gotta get my exhaust guy to fab it some, then.

I see the problem.  It lists 2Wd and 4Wd and SAS and IFS models all together, without actually saying which that note is talking about.
