Running Issue
« on: Apr 08, 2008, 05:13:47 PM »
I just got my carb rebuilt and put back on, got all the vacuum lines hooked up and fired it over and ran it. It dies if I dont keep it at about 1500 rpms, it doesn't idle. Whatcha think it could be? Also, I've asked this many times but, does anybody have a couple pics of their engines with all the vacuum lines taken off? Thanks!

you need to tune it to some extent

Sorry, I want pics of the vacuum stripped out and lines capped. I'll try to tune it a little bit.

ok...so here are some pics of my truck in its current state. i have had my 34/34 on for about 5 months and then i got a charging issue so never mind all of the wiring mess :nerv:  :headscratch: ! if you convert from stock carb to a weber or another...i would consider doing the same that i am doing...ripping out all of the  :pokinit: that becomes usless like all of the cannon plugs and emission controller. the only reason that i am doing that is it is a lot less of a liability on the trail and the fact that i am tracing down my charge wire issue... anyways here are some photos that might help. and like i said i ripped all of the vacum lines out including the manifold that is under the carb with all of the hard lines. the only thing that i havn't taken out yet is the EGR which i will do when i get my header next week... let me know if you want any more pics...just make sure you don't have any vacum leaks...that will jump up the rpm's...

what year truck. if your running a stock carb.. you need some vacuum lines hooked up for a good running engine. yeah and some are just for stuff. so year, engine and are you running a stock air cleaner? should be able to set you up with a simple system without all the extra mind bending lines.

chaos on Friday again.. forgot my book. if you have a manual look at the Canadian drawing and that's the minimum you probably want to run.  things I'd run brake booster, PVC, distributor. vacuum to the app, choke opener and idle up valve for deceleration. if you have a vacuum switch I'd run that too because it idle shut down solenoid. i replaced all the hose's on my rig and nothing worked. then i discovered that the screw in vacuum hose conection in the middle of the manifold was loose.  good luck.

Thanks man. If I start my truck after its been sitting for a while it'll idle at about 1500 rpms and if I rev it up it'll die. Would that be that idle up valve deal?

could be if someone had it wired up funny. but not likely, because if it was on all the time, it would always be running at 1500 rpm and would contine to run at 1500 even after you rev'ed it up. it's normally set at 1050rpm i believe. what it sounds like to me is that you running on your fast idle cam and after you rev the engines it's trying to run on the idle setting that's set too low. or you have an egr valve that stuck open. here's a basic vacuum line drawing.

I'd try it. remember to mark the line as you remove them, so when you replace them you remember where they went. take a picture or make a drawing so you'll have a reference. if you still have the same problem then it's probably not the vacuum line's. let me know.

Uh oh...  :nerv: Prob should have marked the lines. I have a general idea of were they went. If It doesn't run good with the lines like that my neighbor has a  :psss: weber 32/36. My bro has one so I'd know what to cap and what lines to run.

yeah sounds like a good plan.. if you can get a good price on that weber, I'd get it anyway just for a spare. Even if i try a diffrent fuel system, I'll keep my weber for back up.
