They dump them on us.  BASTARDS

Article from Pasadena Star News April 4, 2008, from Associated Press

"Tortoises on the move"
Army moving Mojave's flagship species from base

"FORT IRWIN - Scientists have begun moveing the Mojave Desert's flagship species, the desert tortoise, to make room for tank training at the Army's Fort Irwin despite protests by some conservationists.

The controversial project billed as the largest desert tortoise move in California history, invloves transferring 770 endangered reptiles from Army land to a dozen public plots overseen by the U.S. Burueau of Land Management....

Weeks before the relocation two conservation groups threatend to sue Fort Irwin.  The Center for Biological Diversity and Desert Survivors content that the land set aside for the desert tortoises is too close to an interstate highway and is plagued with off-road vehivles and illegal dumping that would disturb the animals...".

I cut out the crap and probably made a few typos but you get the idea.

I see where this is going.

:headshake: that's great...move them to an OHV area so they can close the OHV due to endangered species in it. :banned:

That exact thing happened right here in southern Utah.  Thousands of acres were declared "wildlife habitat" because of relocated tortoises.  And the sad part is that the elevation here is too high and the Tortoises aren't surviving.  Their (the greenies) improperly chosen and illegally implimented "wildlife habitat" is killing the tortoises.  Yep, that's a good way to take care of an endangered species...

...and on a related note the guy they confiscated most of the land from never even got paid.  Now he lost millions because he can't develop and he has to pay to graze his cattle elsewhere...

Sounds like he needs a better lawyer.  That's a clear 5th Amendment issue

Whats next? They going to relocate whales to freshwater lakes to do submarine training??  :shake:

There are reasons animals inhabit certain areas, because thats what they are built for. They adapted to that region for a reason....... :smack:

That's probably why they don't want to pay him.  As it is he can't afford to beat them in court...

Depending on how much they owe him he could always hire a lawyer on a contingency fee.  Lawyer taking 30% of something is better than having nothing at all.

They have started moving them, sure is sad that an endangered spices doesn't have a leg to stand on. What this means is since we aren't endangered and really don't make our homes in Dumont we are doomed to loose this OHV area.

As the move continues more of them are being killed by coyotes, this is our government at work. Lock us out of an area because there are endangered species about but if they want the land they will freely move them at there own peril.
