You are moving right along! I am suprised at the amount of room you have in the engine compartment with that engine. I thought it would be more cramped.

i have a question. i showed u that hood mod. if u still do it, is it gonna be off to the side? because i was looking at 81toy4x truck and noticed the bulge in the middle and was thinking that the vent would not work like that?

Here are the two sides of the engine bay.

I can't believe how much room there is on the passengers side of the engine bay. This shot might not show it, but I will put up some more pics that show more. There is almost nothing on the passengers side. I thought that because the engine is naturally tilted to that side, it would crowd the area, but actually there is alot of room. Im thinking york on-board air and an A/C compressor 8)

If you are wondering why its so open, here some more info.. The battery will be relocated to the drivers side. The clutch slave and all lines will be relocated to the drivers side. Both fuel lines (high and return) will be relocated to the drivers side. The engine's fuse box is located on the drivers side. So basically everything is moved to the drivers side. So it will be crowded over there.

One thing I really like about this engine is that the power steering is all intact with the engine. The revisor atop the pump so there are no messy lines running all over. Also the water pump is driven by the timing chain so their is one less fan belt. Everything just seems to be so compact. You would be suprised to see how big the water temp sensor is. Remember how the R sensor is about a 17mm socket or something? Well I doubt the 3RZ's is even a 10mm. It is so tiny and everything seems to be designed with maximizing the space around the engine...

So here are my only clearance issues....

One with the brake booster which should be ok, and the other with the diff. Now its really dangerously close to the diff. But, I wanted to get the engine as low as possible to help with the CG. Once I put some 4" springs on and move the axle forward about 2 inches it will be in much better condition. I could always install some extra bump stop on the bottom of the passenger's side engine mount that will contact the top of the pumpkin before the housing wacks the oil pan. So I've got some more things to do and play around with before that really is an issue. I will just be careful while I am driving it around getting it smogged and registered. Like as if I jump trucks anyways?

Hmmmm...... That's a good point.. This evening I was thinking of where to mount the air filter. I would like to get it out of the engine bay but I plan on doing some creek crossings (this isnt my MR2 dangit mike

) so I was going to put it behind the passenger's headlight and place a very small scoop/opening on the front corner of the hood to dump some cold air right on the filter.. So I think I am not going to do that Orchard supply hood scoop...........

nah, it's just that I dont have any pics from the side yet. Not only does the stock radiator fit, but it fits with the T100 clutch fan too. I would love to use an electric, but I want to avoid any thing that might break down up in the mountains and just stick to the mechanical fan.

A long time ago Marlin got a radiator from a diesel Toyota truck that's alot thicker, maybe a 4 core? 3? anyways, I'm thinking I might need a larger one too to help keep this engine cool - Im sure its not needed, but I just like to keep things as cool as possible. Crawling around rocks doesnt move much air through the radiator anyways...

So I am even wondering if I can use that thicker radiator and still be able to use the clutch fan. The 3RZ really isnt much longer than the 22R, but its alot taller...

While Andy was working on the mounts I was taking care of other business.

I pulled the short bed carb fuel tank and had planned to fit this EFI long bed tank.

WHITE_TRASH, you said you once installed a longbed tank in a shortbed frame? How?

I think it's impossible unless I modify the crossmembers and move the rear shocks around...

Here's the wiring mess I have to sort through. Hope to having it all settled by next weekend!!

It was a direct bolt in. We put a body lift on the short bed and decided to drop the tank to clean it since the truck hadnt been run in a few years. Well I dropped the tank and it looked just like the tank from my 84 but the top was cut off of the shorty tank. With the body lift and a little massageingof the bottom rear cab seam it bolted right in for a couple gallon extra.

From the looks of it the difference is the generations not the body configuration. I used the tank from the 94 in the 90 and the 94 was a short box so it had less volume. But they were the same dimensions around the seam. WHy not take a look under your dads truck to see the length of his?

Ahh, but there is more

I got one of the two holes drilled for the engine harness to communicate with the ECU and everything else.. The other hole, on the drivers side, might not be drilled at all. I am going to order a fuse block from painless wiring tomorrow and I am going to completely redue the T100's wiring mess. There are SOOOOOOO many wires that I dont need. Stuff like blinkers, seat belt buzzer, head lights, horns, dome light, radio, climate controls, ohh the list goes on and on and on. Im sure out of all those wires there are maybe 4 or 5 circuits needed on the drivers side for the fuse box. Like the starter and the main battery source to name a couple. So I am just going to do my own harness over there and it will really look like a professional is working on this truck and not some punk kid

You might not wanna get in too big of a hurry making a custom harness. Remember that youstill need to change the dash, which incolves changing another harness completely.

That's weird because the two tanks I had were different lengths. I wonder if there is a long bed tank that was the same length but was just fatter instead of longer...

At any rate, I do need to find an EFI gas tank before I can get this thing firing, so I'll have to come up with one of those yet...

And finally, here is a pic of a mount I was making to mount the Ignitor and a final picture of the engine complete at the end of the day today. Everything is coming along very smoothly as I have not encountered any too serious of a problem yet, so I hope it keeps up like this and everything will be peachy keen..

That's a good point, but it seems that all of the wires for the dash, gauges and safety lights, all are from that one loom on the passengers side I cut that hole for. I've already searched and found the Check Engine light so that's just a jump skip and hop to getting that wired in to the oil light for the smog ref to see. The other wires like blinkers, high beams, and fuel level are already there for the current 81 dash so I think it will be safe to cut it up.. Hopefully I can find a T100 wiring diagram so I can see what wires I really can do without.

Is there any room to shave the oil pan in the front? It looks as though it is pretty close to the crank as it sets.

I think your tank issue is based upon the generation of truck not the chassis it came from. On the second gen's they were the same length. 3rd gen's appear the same way. I know that there is a big length difference between the 81 tank and an efi era, remember I have them all sitting here at the house

Just for giggles Ill go measure the length on the second gen for ya. It looks like you have a 3rd gen efi tank.

29" 1st gen 35" second and third gen. The 2nd gen tank had no "bulge where it goes under the cab, while the 3rd is from the x-cab and it was almost flat with the top of the rest of the tank so that where it gets its added capacity.

When I rebuilt my 22r it was out of a 2wd. I never even thought about the oil pan differences except for the skid plate until it was all bolted in and ready to fire. I broke it in and drove it a little to check the clearance. It was pretty tight under flex. I figured the real test would be to jump it and see if anything hit....I had the other OP pickup and 4wd pan at home so....I did it and the pumpkin just kissed the oil pan where the sump is and left a nice little dent. Now I have shackles, moved the axle and have rear springs on front, so no more hitting issues.

Yeah, as I mentioned before, it is much to early in my conversion for the oil pan to be an issue for me. I am not even worring about it right now.

I'll never be done with MR2s. That's like wondering if you guys have finished modifying your pickups? Yeah, I'm just taken a break from putting all my money into the 2. It's running really good right now, but she needs a stand along ecu upgrade, and I decided to build a truck instead (cost is about the same!!!)

I didn't know that those little 2.7's put that much power out. They only problem I see with you painting the engine bay is that it makes everything else look old
