locking diff lube
« on: Mar 17, 2008, 12:16:08 AM »
Hey, this may be a stupid question- sorry

I drive a 91' yota pickup with a detroit locker, I work at a quick lube and we put this "locking differential additive" into dodges with factory lockers, do I need this for my rear diff? can I just put in 75-90?

that additive is for limited slip differentials and is for the clutch packs. you don't need it with a locker. it is usually referred to as friction modifier

personally, i would run some type of synthetic fluid in the diffs, just better in general -- but regular gear oil is fine

yeah, for some reason mfg's like to call limited slips lockers.  I know GM has with their trucks.  I guess locker sounds cooler.

I work at a grease monkey and it is always fun trying to explain to a customer the difference, they get so defensive saying its a full time locker. lol cracks me up

No special additive but with a full time locker I would use 85-140 weight gear lube to handle the additional heat.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
