Tacoma automatic to 5-speed transfer case?
« on: Mar 01, 2008, 10:05:30 AM »
I posted this on Pirate but the only answer I got was "call Marlin". Maybe someone here can help me get this thing off my driveway and on the road

Progress on my 5VZFE swap has come to a stop because I haven't been able to find a T100 transfer case for a decent price. Then I came across this little bit of info...

 V6 Adapter Plate Instructions

V6 Transmission To Gear-driven Transfer Case

1988-1995 V6 5-Speed Pickup/4Runner
1993-2005 V6 5-Speed/Automatic T-100

If I'm reading this correctly, I can bolt any-ol' V6 5-speed transfer case to the back of my automatic tranny and finish this thing. Any idea on what coupler would be the right one from the tranny output to the x-fer case input?

This is probably what you need:
MC-14124, Model# 34-AT 3.4L V6 / Automatic, $399

Taken from here:
http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transfercase/taco_box.htm

Bolt up a gear drive tcase and you'll probably be good to go.

BTW - Did you consider Driver drop vs. Passenger drop? An older gear drive is Passenger drop, where the T100/Tacoma cases are Driver drop.

That's great if I wanna spend another $500 for the adapter and a gear drive case. I don't because my trail truck needs tires and my grocery getter doesn't need a gear-drive transfer case

Last I heard the T100 is a passenger side drop, and was produced with the tranny I have and the transfer case I need

Found this bit of info on another site selling Marlin's stuff

Adapts 88 and up V6 5speeds were rt drop chain drive same as T100, 96 and up Automatics. Minitrucks 79-jun95 had RT drop Tcases.  T100 is RT Drop Chin drive.

So one more time. Can I bolt my <95 V6 transfer case to my >96 Tacoma V6 automatic, and if so what coupler do I need to use between the 2? The instructions I found here http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transfercase/v6_plate_instal.html lead me to believe the case bolts up, and I guess I would need a T100 coupler between the 2?

Ok, some new info

Mini case will bolt to T100 auto but not Tacoma auto. I need the gear drive case, a T100 tranny and case or some mix of parts(?)

New question is, do T100 and Tacoma automatics use the same output shaft? If they do, I should be able to use my tranny with a T100 extension housing and the case I have
