We couldn't miss it. We're hitting the Formula hard this year. We are planning on running both WERock and ProRock. The schedule also looks clear for our formula toy to be at the Round-up

I ended up at check 1/13 helping track the vehicles, this was a great location since it was the 1st and the last check point. I got lots of pictures the 1st one is Team Marlin Crawler going through check point #1 heading out to the meat of the event and the 2nd is them coming home after beating the odds and conquering the event. I think when it comes to this event just being able to finish is quite the accomplishment. Congratulations Team Marlin Crawler.

The event was great, though as a spectator sport it falls in with desert racing. I'm sure it was more exciting in the rocks but I think things went just as fast there, some of the video I watched went just about as quick as the desert end of the race. I couldn't believe how fast those guys were going through the rock sections. I'm usually happy to get through one trail in a day and they did most of them in 4-5 hrs, my hats off to all the competitors.

sorry it took so ling for me to find this thread guys. Well, our offical finish was 16th, 5 hrs and 45 min (I think) and I'll tell ya, I was really glad to get out of that car at the end of the day. I have probably races 12 desert races in the last 6 years and I raced in the KOH "pre run", so I kinda knew what I was in for. But the amount of consentration it takes to not only get through the desert part, but getting through the trails as fast as you can without making any mistakes FOR 5 HOURS is harder than it sounds. At the end of the race someone asked me a simple question and I was unable to answer it, I was just done making decisions for the day  :shudder:.
With that said, we had a great time. Mike Hendricks from Hendrix Motorsports was my co driver and he was a HUGE part of us finishing.
We ended up breaking a front leaf spring half way through the day which should have finished us but we were able to find a guy that welded it up good enough to hold the rest of the day. We also had a problem with a pinched ARB line but were ablel to get that fixed pretty fast. Other that those 2 problems which cost us about and hour, the Marlin Crawler formula Toy ran great.
As far as the broken spring goes, we decided to run the same springs that we ran in the first KOH race and the entire Pro Rock and We Rock season last year. It probably wasn't a great decision, but what better way to test just how much of a beating a set of Marlin Crawler springs will actually take. We found the the limit and I can tell you guys that you don't have anything to worry about. These leaf springs that Marlin Crawler sells are REALLY GOOD QUALITY.

Thanks to all the guys at MC for supporting us in the past year and the year to come.

John you can't post without telling how you had to back into the notch form the dirt on the right side on upper wrecking ball trying to pass that broken F-toy. It was a cluster  and you did some epic driving.

I've gotta hear this!

I'll tell it from my seat.

I was riding with Scott from Rockstomper We had a flat early and had to run the first 2 trails and the rough section before the sledge sand hill with a flat. We got it fixed and did sledge and jack pretty fast. As we went  into wrecking ball there was a cluster #$%^ at the first big obstical so we went high to the right to pass. this took some creative heavy throttle driving by Scott but we made it and were off. not sooner had we done that we came up to where JT Taylor was broken. I jumped out to spot through a creative line on the left but soon JT winched out of our way and we were able to get around but I noticed we had flattened the right front tire. We had used all our co2 on the last one so we pressed on and up the waterfall. Just above that is a notch that can be tricky. There was an F-toy stuck in there so we waited. The croud was yelling to go around on the right but we had a flat front and did not want to deal with the steep loose hill with a flat. Eventualy people started piling up and soon the pikes Peak Rovers rig went high on the right. We realised the f-toy hwould not start so we did the same thing and it went about as bad as it could. As soon as we start to climb here comes John from some crazy line of the rocks to the right. We can't stop or we will slide back down onto a jeep who was trying to winch out the F-toy. Finally we get the jeep to move and with some rear steer and luck Scott drives us off the cliff still on 4 wheels.

During all this John has tried to climb the same place we were and has just slid across the hill on the edge of a 12 foot ledge he looks like his day may end soon. But with some epic driving he is able to get the Marlin Cralwer F-Toy pointed up the hill and backs down this huge ledge. I only saw the start of the process but a few freinds who were there said it was the best driving they saw all day.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Wayne
