WHAT PS PUMP?
« on: Feb 19, 2008, 09:19:01 PM »
Ok I am going full hydro just wondering what power steering pump is everyone running on full hydro? I am just not sure if a stock toyota pump will cut it or  go to after market. Then again might be better to put ifs box and and factory pump and go hydro assist what you think? :dunno:

Friend of mine got everything for his hydro assist at Northern tool and hardware.  Don't know if you have one of those nor do I know what all he got but he told me everything he got off of there shelves and it was a lot cheaper than getting it from a off road shop or web page.

i have looked @ northern tool for qutie a bit of stuff, and found there prices to be high... some stuff they are pretty cheap on, but a lot of the stuff seems way overpriced...

I don't see the need for full hydro. I just did the hydro assist with the stock pump on my '89 and it is more than sufficient with 37's. I wouldn't think you would need to run full hydro unless you are turning really wide 40"+ tires.

To each his own, I just finished full-hydro on my rig yesterday. I said the same thing about dual cases years ago. Until I drove a rig with a dual ultimate set up. The next week I bought the second case.

When I first did my hydro assist it worked great with the stock pump modified a bit. A guy I know told me to get a TC type pump. I told him why, the stock one works fine. About a year later my stock pump went out so I bit the bullet and bought a PSC TC style pump. My ram assist went from working great to working amazingly!!!

I'm going with a Saginaw pump. My Toyota pump isn't cutting it anymore. I'm sick of not being able to steer at idle.

Yeah if I had power steering I would go hydro assist more than likely but it will cost me about the same to just go full hydro off the prices I have got for both routes.

$400 for a Saginaw pump and some fittings from PSC is a rip off. You can do it for about a third of the price.
