Is it possible that when I had the cam sprocket tied up and pulled it back on that I got it off a tooth at the bottom? It ran descent just noisy when took apart run like

when put back together.

We tied the chai to the cam sprocket so that didnt move, had some trouble getting top sprocket back on cam. can i move it a tooth without taking off timing cover?

yeah, you can move it with out taking the timing cover off. it might be frustrating but you can do it. i did it with my 84 22R. when i took my head off i put some cheap wire through the link that you're supposed to line up with the mark on the sprocket so i knew i had it right and so i could pull it back up if it fell down into the tc cover. you could also be off a tooth or two on the distributor. that's what happend with me you have to get it just right or else it won't run or run crappy.

yes move it one tooth, one direction and use a ratchet to rotate the motor 1 full rev, if it doesnt bind up (one tooth the wrong way could bind a valve) so if it doesnt bind beyond the regular stiffness of the engine rotating, compression etc, then try starting it,

another and much quicker way is to put the crank timing mark on 0*, then look at the dowel in the cam gear, if its at 12 o clock and the timing mark is like 1/2 tooth to the passenger side of 12 o clock then its tiimed right

my mark with the cam lined up at 12 is to the driver side a tooth, it should be to the passenger side?

I like 2 use a bungy cord on the sprocket/chain and hook it on the ceiling/over head keeping constint pressure so the chain don't come off the bottum

thats where we made the mistake we secured the chain to sprocket but let sprocket rest on a little piece of wood with no tension? dangit!

I was a tooth off runs good now but drove about 20 miles and pulled plugs out they are awfully lean, any way to richen it up?

turn fuel mix screw on carb out i think. could be wrong glad you got it figured out. although i take my sprocket out, but i remember exactly how i had it before and mark everything good. and as i said put a wire through the links that line up with the mark on the sprocket.
