Anti-wrap bar
« on: Feb 15, 2008, 10:22:16 PM »
I know it has been discussed a lot but... I need to know if it is ok to mount the bar on the far side of an axle by the spring perch.  Pics and input is welcome. I am out of space.

should be fine, there are many traction bars that mount to the spring perch area....

have you lookied into one liek this though? that uses the diff centersection? it is in my opinion the best setup as it wont kill articulation

E-locker is in the way. I just need a far mounted one or a center mounted one.

mount it as close to center as possible. Off to the side (especially as far out as the springs :o ) is gonna limit the hell out of your travel not to mention wont do :pokinit: for controlling wrap. In (as close to) the center, the trac bar will have a ton more leverage against wrap. Make sure to have two mounting points at the axle (above and below the housing centerline) and one at the horscollar with a slip or shackle. look around theres pics here of different ones

Budbuilt site says you can mount on either side for certain years.

- 8" TRD electric locker converted.  Left side and right side mounting available."

I know that but... I have exhaust on one side that is all snaked over the horse collar and a gas tank on the other side. Dead center would be nice.

It will fit in between gas tank and drive shaft with no problem so I would mount it there.   :twocents:

No way. My drive shaft is so close to the tank already. I will snag some pics of it and see what you guys think. Anyone have pics of one mounted centered.

KDOG: So why can't you just keep it near the center right now? Just build a bracket to get around the e-motor

Why not weld a perch on top of the axle and use it like the face of the third? I've seen that, somewhere.

Explain your thoughts?
Why not weld a perch on top of the axle and use it like the face of the third? I've seen that, somewhere.
And I don't know how a single bar would eliminate the axle wrap?

You could do it like this:
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=5835.0;highlight=trac+bar
Or you could make it similar to the stock front track bar.

KYOTA has the design I am going to use. It is exactly what I want to do. I wonder if he used a shackle or a slip joint.

Here's mine, it has a slip joint at the front. I had the same clearance issue with the exhaust.

With the slip joint is it clanky and noisy at all. I hear they are but don't have first hand experience.

You have plenty of room to use Jay Ks design

http://www.mindspring.com/~jayk3/toyota/rear_susp.htm

I've used this style myself and had good luck with it.  In fact I'm building another one for a project I'm working on right now.

the first one I built was a copy of Jay's (in posted link) I ended up cutting the bracket off the top of the housing and centering the trac bar more for clearance and it controlled wrap much better. best way is to lose the springs and link it  :talkingn:

The one I am running right now is much like the one in that pic.  I have it right next to the third like that but I raised it higher for ground clearance.

Mine works well, I mean, it's no 4-link...
