How are you going to mount the tensioner pully for the ps pump without that threaded boss on the head? You may have to make a custom bracket, or extend yours over to another hole in the front cover. It will be worth it to have power steering though.

That's already in the works , gotta have power steering .

That thing should be nothin to drive without p/s. I drive and wheel my 82 on 35s with no p/s with no problem. I think parallel parking is the hard part though.

Well , I got the airsoft BB's put in the tires and it still shimmies at about 55 mph , the 20R can't get them over 55mph . I wonder if adding a header will give it a little more power , it is stock geared 4:37's . Does anyone else have this problem with running 32's and bigger with 4:37's ?

I made a half assed bracket that wrapped from the idler pulley mount to the pass side of the engine to the first available mounting boss.  I always intended to make a stout mount but never quite got around to it, maybe when I get to that point during my rebuild I'll make something.  I contacted lc engineering a while back to see if they had a bracket but they didn't, wouldn't even offer a suggestion on what to do.  Probably should avoid using early heads when building a hybrid

I'm running 4.37's, 33"s, and the 20R, and I can hit 70 in the interstate if I try real hard. I have a header, and the stock carb.

I'm definately getting a header , I think that will help out alot . In town it will get up to 40 mph in a hurry but on the hwy it takes awhile to get it at 55mph and it doesn't really want to go past that with pedal to the floor . I think a Weber and a header would do wonders .

i agree.

and...
i know IFS handles differently and the steering is different.
but im not running my PS in it right now as my pulleys out of wack and throwing belts...
and im on 35s.
id rather drive 35s, no PS then throw a belt every 10 seconds and risk ripping my distributer sensor wires again doing 75 down a 6% grade and kill the truck... NOT FUN!

but i do agree PS does make it easier, but w/o it, it is totally managable.

come over next week sometime and we'll do a compression test on that thing,   you might  need to swap the other engine in :dunno:

and i might can play with the timing to get you more power also

The other engine would need a rebuild before I could throw it in but that is my plans . I think that would help if we played with the timing and maybe set the valves , they may be a little off .

How do you plan to bypass the old antifreeze tempature controlled choke? I'm doing the opposite and I'm putting a stock carbed 20r into a truck origonally equipped with a 22r.

I'm gonna get a short hose and run it from each side of both openings and toss the old choke . Got the Doug Thorley Tri-Y Headers put on this afternoon , pic.s will follow . The jets are running too rich for what I have so I'm gonna order a jet kit and rejet the carb. after that she should open up pretty good .
