Your thoughts on Pigs (FJ55s)
« on: Jan 31, 2008, 10:05:25 AM »
I was thinking about buying a pig. No, I don't live on a farm and those Asian pot belly pigs can't make good pets. :gap: I'm talking an FJ55 Landcruiser. Smog exempt, small block Chevy and a mild build up to go to the mountains etc. (not a hardcore rig).  :wag:

Anyone here own one? :dunno: Is there anyting I should look out for? :blah: In my limited web research, it looks like they have rust issues (even here in SoCal).

Here are a couple of pictures of a local one on craigslist. 8)

It seems like that is the biggest issue. This is a great introduction article I found on Ih8mud. http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/132481-buying-land-cruiser.html

Edit: and I want to run a Toyota 4.7 V8 from an early Tundra in it, with dual gear cases in it. Keep it yota! Hmm, any manual tranmissions work behind the 4.7?

I love that one, it looks like it has a ton of room under the hood, maybe even enough for a sweet diesel!

As stated above rust is the big issue.

ih8mud has tons of info and enough reading to keep you busy for a month.

You can find some good ones though.  One of my buds brought one up from Arizona and it is in good shape.  Try to find one from a dry region.

My best FJ40 came up from Arizona and it was in pretty good shape when I got it.  I have since hammered it pretty good but it is still my favorite and has been pretty bulletproof.

I think there is one a few miles from here for sale.  I'll check on it...
