Rancho 9000
« on: Jan 14, 2008, 05:51:53 PM »
I just took a set of Rancho 9000 (#9143 5-way adjustable) shocks of the rear of my 4Runner.  They are in working condition with some rust and one has a slight dent.  The shaft appears to be in great shape, and they were working ok when I took them off.  They should bolt right up on the stock rear mounts on 2nd generation trucks or 3rd generation 4Runners (probably more but I don't know for sure).

I'm not looking to make money on the deal, just enough to make it worth my time to mail them plus shipping.  Make an offer if you need them.  It just seems like a waste to toss them out if someone could use them.

They are about 17 inches compressed and 25 inches extended for about 8 inches of travel.

Hey, black dimond.  I'm working on my low lift 4runner set up and could use those shocks for test mules.  I have a 10" doestec in the rear and it looks like a 10" travel front is all I'll need.  I'm planning on ordering the Bilstiens but wanted to drive it and test the flex before I spend any money.  I would could cover the shipping to CT 06437.  How do you like the Bilstein's?

Send me a PM so I don't forget.

I would strongly consider running another set of Rancho 9000s in the future simply because the adjustability would be nice.  This weekend we had four guys and 13 guns (plus ammo) in the 4Runner and it got a little wiggly on the highway at 65 mph.  It was a bit windy, but I'm positive that I could have adjusted it out with Ranchos.

The Bilsteins ride great and I expect that they will be better off road, but when the runners loaded at speed they are certainly not perfect.

:yesnod:  I've loaded up some heavy crap in the truck, tightened up the ranchos and it rode very nicely.

Wow..I've never heard any thing bad said about the Bilsteins, and I used to have Ranchos without the adjustability and thought they were way to stiff on the road.  Charles at Alcan recommended (kind of insisted) that I run Bilsteins with the springs he made for me.  My lift is 3" springs and 1" shackle for a total of 4", maybe that will take out some of the wiggle.  How about a sway bar?  I haven't seen much work done to add them back in after a SAS or Cross Over steering setup on solid axle rigs like mine.  Would you say the DD ride is nicer with the Bilsteins under normal (unloaded/non-highway) cruising?  I'll send you a PM with shipping address and can send shipping cost via Pay-Pal if you don't mind sending them.  I've got a Flat Piman arm for sale from TG that I plan to return (brand new), but they do charge 20% for restocking.  I would sell it for $55 plus shipping (only weights 2 lbs) instead of sending it back.

I think the Bilsteins ride great under most conditions.  Even in the wind on the highway loaded I didn't feel out of control, it was just moving around more than I would have guessed.  I think the ride is comparable to the Rancho's on 3 or 4 (in the front), but it is difficult to compare since I have never had Rancho's on the front of the 4Runner and the springs are very different from the previous rig.
