Are IROKS a good tire for a DD?
« on: Jan 13, 2008, 01:42:04 PM »
I have 37 MTRs right now but i am looking at my other options. 1991 with SAS and a 4.3L with an auto. Do the tread last on IROKS?

its a really good tire and i wouldnt waste it burning them up just driving around town. get the radial tire if you plan on DD it. yes they are a great tire, there as commonly used as the MTR. the tread last pretty well but from what ive seen in person and have read the side lugs dont last as long at all on the 39.5s as do the 42s.

Yup, if its a DD, I wouldn't run Iroks on the street.. seems like a waste of a good tire.

Yeah they do, and IIRC, its about the same size as the 36" bias Irok.  I still wouldn't run the radial version on the street.  Based on the design of the tire, whether its a radial or not, its gonna wear quickly on the street.

You can actually get pretty good life out of the irok radials.

irok bias ply are really soft, i would definately not have as a DD, the radials i hear are good but dont know first hand, research the radials more, iroks are great tires

Don't know if you like this option but you could run 2 sets, 1 of something that will last as a DD then another set like iroks for when you go wheeling. I've got 33's for DD and now 36 Iroks for wheeling only.  :dunno:  :twocents:

Yeah it's a lot of money if you buy both sets new. Got my 33's new 2 yrs ago and they're lasting much longer than I expected, I picked up the iroks used a couple months ago, this way it wasn't hard on the wallet. The seats are stock, SR5 w/covers.
