how much u wanting to spend?

I got a used Downey header straight back to a flowmaster Hushpower (still not quite sure WHY they call it that) with no cat. I also have a mild low end cam.

Sounds like an angry bumblebee....I like it

if you purchase individual components, i.e. cat, or exhaust, check ebay first for lowest prices on NEW items

I have an LC engineering  long tube header, highflow cat and a flowmaster 40.
This setup works great for me but the flowmaster is just a little too loud.
I've  heard maybe the magnaflow is a better choice.......
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

I have a LCE header with a Flowmaster 60 on my trail rig and a Downey header with cat and a 60 on my DD/trail rig. They both preform great, but I do like the LCE a little better cuz they put the O2 senser lower on the tube and easy to get to. The sound on both of them is great.

What I did, what I think about it: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=38450.180

I wanted a 60 series, but the guy was being a richard and was like we don't have any, and we wont be getting any for a while, so I just said whatever and got the 50. It is not my favorite sound, but is bearable.

My bad (fixed). Don't know what I was thinking. :gap:

I'd say use 2 1/4"-2 1/2" exhaust.
Forgot to mention on both of mine I also have a 2 1/2" exhaust from the header back.

Yeah, Downey is good and either muffler is fine as long as you have a cat installed(needs a certain amount of back pressure).

Edit - I have a Thorley on mine, though.  Very nice and no funny holes for that air injection, since mine never had it.  Smog Legal, too, which is a must as I live in Kalifornia.

I got a LCE headers, testpipe, and their cat bak exhaust system and i love it.
The only problem i had was the install,I ended up having to bring it to the local muff shop and they had to cut it up to fit. that messed up the ceramic coating, other than that it's lovely... wonder if anybody else had the problem...

So technically an old 4 cyl 4 Runner should be even smaller - like 2 inches max.(ie - 2 1/4 is upsized already).  Gotta love little engines :)
