22R vs. 22RE
« on: Dec 03, 2007, 11:55:46 AM »
Here is the situation, I have an 84 4runner with a 22R motor, that needs replacing.  I have a 22RE motor out of an 87 4runner.  I don’t have the harness or anything else that is needed to convert to EFI, and I am not looking to convert to EFI either.  So here is what I am looking to do, if possible:  I want to take the intake off the 22R motor (and 22R head if need be) and put the 22R intake (and 22R head if need be) on the 22RE motor that I have, and just run it that way in the 4runner.  I have a propane kit for the 22R motor and intake, so that is why I want to keep it this way, but I have no idea if it can be done (anything can be done), but if it is going to be to much of a PITA to actually get it done.

Any help/advice is much appreciated!  This is my first Toyota, so I am still learning!  Sorry if this is a re-post, I seached, and could not find a previous write up on it!

Cheers

I think 84 was the year (might have even been mid-year) that the 22r series motor block had a slight redesign...  (slightly shorter afterwards....).

So I'm not sure............

You could always try and bolt things up. (if it bolts up, I don't see a problem...)

lt bolt up, and work just fine with no issues as long as you use all the intake parts from the 84.

So, it should bolt right up then, right, no need to swap the head's?

Look up the part number for the intake manifold gasket for an 84 and the 87 and see if they're the same part...............
