Waterproofing 22re engine compartment
« on: Nov 18, 2007, 10:37:34 PM »

Hi there, I'm lookin for some help sealing engine components, aside from gooping the distributor and a snorkel.
Ive had trouble in deep water before and am wondering how to prevent getting swamped.
Any thoughts would be great, thanks!

Put di electric grease inside both ends of the plug wires.  Buy a can of wire drier (stp) from vatozone, shake it up and douse anything that looks like it may need it liberally.  Let it dry and hit it again.  Maybe two or three coats should do it.  Pay attention to all the connectors if you're injected.  Find a way to turn the fan off while in the water.  I can blast into water an easy 50 mph and never skip a beat........

      Hey, thanks for the info!
What about the those finicky electronics like the throttle position sensor?
should I just blast it with the wire drier too?

Just asking cause the tps is a pricey little b*std...

yep do that to everything electrical. and run a snorkel for sure..... wire drier that AFM as well. or try and relocate that box as far backand as high as possible in the engine compartment. guna have to lengthen the AFM wires.

way less electrical....yet you still have some. so make sure you take care of those. but they do have more vacuum lines.
make sure you have no splits, holes, slits, cracks in  your vac lines and make sure all your vac lines are on.... sucking in water through those.... NOT GOOD
