Idle drop when ac is turned on?
« on: May 27, 2004, 12:31:47 PM »
Wife wants AC fixed.    Truck idles fine, but when I turn on AC idle goes from 750 to 400 and won't cool while idling....cool when driving.  This system I do not think has an idle up control vavle like 22re....any ideas where to start?

68,000 miles and throttle was just cleaned......Worked fine last year....just replaced HG in the winter.....AC works fine...just won't cool while idling....maybe not as cool as it was last year and would over charging cause this....

4cylinder or v-6? ill look it up manual or auto?yeah it could overcharging the stytem can cause the pressures to go very high and put a heavy load on the engine but alot of other things will do similiar -if its a 4 cylinder or six a reversed vacuum line could cause this problem- if this is a factory equipt system it does have a controler of some type  but it may look different than the early style .
any way if you want call my ph# thats in my ad in the parts section under grumpy1 i can walk u thru some tests-

the control soloinod is on the passenger side fenderwell -the lines are tric kybecause they go under the intake -i believe the adjuster is black there may also be a vacuum control diaphram on the passenger side of engine near air injection control valve-(the control valve would have larger vacuum lines running to it if there  is no a vacuum diaphram on the intake )if there are two larger lines on the control valve there should also be 2 smaller lines hooked up to control valve -make sure that one line has manifold vacuum all the time to control valve -(the emissions label on the hood will help you figure out what goes where) sometimes the steel lines that  come from under the intake will plugg up just follow the vacuum diagram on the hood and make sure they are correct -the control soloniods do fail -and i just so happen to have one for 20 bucks if you need it -but im in fresno area -if your close i can just troubleshoot and repair it for you for a small fee
