Newfangled wheeling with video cameras
« on: Oct 19, 2007, 03:42:53 PM »
When I was down in Hot springs I saw a couple of the guys running these wireless cameras from Wal-mart.  They seemed to work very well and there is no wiring involved so installation is painless. It was kinda funny because when the two rigs that had them were parked side by side the wireless signals crossed and they were looking underneath each others rigs! They seem like a good idea to me for 80 bucks and I was wondering if anyone else had used them?  I was thinking about ordering one.

If you need a spotter and don't have one they will be nice.
Look into backup cameras too some have more than one camera input.

It's bad enough that all these soccer mom's drive around in their huge SUV's with backup cameras because they can't judge distance, now DTB's gonna hit the trail with cameras everywhere so he doesn't hit something.  :shake:

It wasn't a field it was a hill, and I hit it on purpose.

Ok, so I bought it and hooked it up today...pretty impressed so far...image and wireless signal seem good. There are adjustments for brightness and contrast. It is suprisingly bright for being underneath the truck.

I ran a bead of silicone around the camera and rock lights (which I got from SuperBrightLEDs.com) after reading about some potential moisture problems someone had.

I really, really hate wiring....i dont know why..it's really easy...just hate it...

These long pliers made it easy to fish wires through the firewall..

testing...testing...my most angriest face possible

Mounted it here for now...

I plan on doing somewhat of a long term test with this camera (durability, weather-proofing, etc. ) I will keep you guys updated. If the camera works well I may add another with a switching device

Im stoked to see how this thing works.  I want one for my jeep but I am worried about the moniter getting destroyed so I have been searching for one with a water proof moniter...

you could make a box out of plexiglass and silicon all the edges so it water proof. you could then put in little push buttons in it so you can still mess with the contrast and all that good stuff....just a thought from a real life genius

LOL that is the first thing that comes to mind when we chat,  "that sillywilly  sure is a genius"   >>>>>> LOL>>>> JK man.  Not a bad Idea, I had concidered it but what about humidity, if I seal the box how do I make sure that no moisture from the humidty is in or gets in there.
