money is basicly non-exhistant right now so i'm willing to sell the 4runner. heres some details about it.
1987 4cyl 22re with around 226,000 miles on it. runs excellent with great power, have gotten 27mpg at 65mph with it.
just installed a replacement 5 speed manual tranny, still have the old tranny (bad bearings) if you would be interested in it as well.
has the factory hard top, metal panels around the side windows is rusty and needs replacement. headliner in the top has a few tears.
roughly 31" tall bfg at tires on it, front right tire is differant and front left needs replacement (uneven wear, alignment done recently though).
has add-a-leafs in the rear.
aftermarket sterio system, speakers are alright.
good interior for the most part, 1 crack in the dash and some carpet stains in the rear cargo carpet. side panels in the rear are damaged, plastic doors wont stay in place.

problems that still need work:
i have to fix the starter, hopefully will have it taken care of tomorrow.
leaf spring pack bolts are broken, i just need to replace those havent gotten around to it yet.
interior needs to be cleaned up, kinda dirty (had the top off most of the summer, no shock there).
rubber seals along the bottom of the hard top need replacement.
rust in the rear fenders and on the rear part of the frame. surface on the frame area (and the IFS components up front), major rust in the fenders. clean everywhere else.
brakes are spongy, i upgraded to a v6 master cylinder recently, believe the proportioning valve is bad (can be bypassed).

i recently drove this thing from Tooele Utah (near Salt Lake City), down to Houston Texas (roughly 1900 miles), then to San Antonio, then to Midland, then back up to Tooele. roughly 3,500 miles alltogether. besides the bearings in the tranny going bad (no shock, was pulling a small trailer with that many miles and the original tranny never rebuilt) i had no problems.

1,500 dollars obo, located in Tooele Utah. will consider a trade for an 80's era chevy/gmc fullsize blazer, reg cab pickup, or suburban. 4x4 preferred, but i have access to parts to do the SAS if needed.

oddball

If I could I would buy that in a heartbeat, If you need money why the hell would sell a fuel efficient four banger for a gas guzzling land yacht? Anyways good luck

lol most of my trips right now are short and i can drop a diesel into a fullsize gm easily and cheaply that gets mid 20's on the highway. a blazer or a reg cab short bed would be my favorite options. or a land cruiser, but i highly doubt theres one in that price range.

1200 obo. tranny is good, starter works sporatically (think its the brushes inside the starter)

I live outside Dallas
Don't get in any kind of hurry, I won't have the money for a couple of weeks

has the motor ever been rebuilt or anything?

jonnyblackfoot

i'd like to see the truck in person if you are heading through TX soon!

red

not headed down for awhile unfortunatly (no money for gas). motor might have been rebuilt but i dont know (bought it used with about 216k miles on it). has more power to it though than my friends 85 4runner with 150k miles. fires right up (i need to fix the exhaust, pipe broke just after the manifold). power wise was able to pull my motorcycle on a trailer (total about 2k pounds) from Tooele Utah all the way down to Houston Texas. unloaded on the highway i get anywhere from 24-27mpg at 70mph.

problems:
1. starter works sporatically. most likely the brushes inside the starter solenoid are going bad but i cant access them because the screws that hold the cover on are nearly stripped out. truck can be push started easily though.

2. exhaust pipe broke a few inches after the manifold. i'm gonna see if i can pull the pipe out and weld it back together. runs just fine but sounds like a weedeater on steroids currently haha.

3. front 2 tires are not so good. left front has major uneven wear because of bad alignment (i've had the truck aligned since then) and the front right tire is a replacement street tread tire. back 2 tires are good and they are (along with the front left) bfg at tires. 260x70x16 or something like that on 16" black steel rims.

4. the temperature lever on the climate controls is broken about 1/2 way in the temp selection. before it broke both the heater and the ac system worked.

5. paint looks like crud as you can see in the link to photobucket.

6. brakes are soft currently. pads and shoes look good and i've bled the system so i'm pretty sure its the lspv. pretty common problem on these vehicles.

it has add-a-leafs in the rear suspension and the truck (with the top on) sits about 2" taller in the rear. its not a perfect truck but is solid and goes anywhere. earliest i might be going down to Texas (possibly, plans are unknown currently) is during thanksgiving, would be going down to San Antonio or Abiline.

i got cash and real interested...let me know if you are in abilene anytime soon...

red

will do man  . i'll get some new pics posted up so you can see the interior/exterior and the problem area's. truck was originally white with some black pinstripeing, today i cut off most of the pinstripeing and started sanding down the passanger side and the hood. might not be the highest quality paint job, but it will be one color instead of looking like a skunk haha.

jonnyblackfoot

sounds good...are you taking recommedations on color? I like blue or black or brown

jonnyblackfoot

i didn't mind the color it was...how much more if you paint it?

dizzydevil

i say pink with purple racing stripes

red

ya taking recomendations on the color. it was originally white, previous owner sprayed those area's black to try and stop them from rusting (he accidentaly sprayed part of the top as well). by the time i get down to Texas i should have all the problems fixed so probably 2k for the truck once everything is fixed/painted.

bad news. on the latest offroading trip had a couple problems develop that i dont have the money to fix so my loss is your gain.
i drowned it in ice cold water and sucked water into the intake. we pulled the truck out, pulled the plugs (3 plug wires broke), cranked it over and got the water out. reinstalled the plugs and it fired right back up on 1 cyl. got back to town, installed new plug wires and was running nice and smooth again. started heading back to home and one of the lower radiator hoses split draining the coolant and the temp guage didnt show that i was getting hot so it overheated. towed it home, replaced the head gasket and double checked the timing and i'm getting no more than 30psi compression. head looked fine and i just replaced the head gasket so i'm assuming either piston rings or a crack in the block much lower in the cylinder.

problems:
1. no compression on the motor
2. needs new brake shoes in the rear
3. priming. i already did the initial sanding with 240 grit
4. exhaust reattached. if you want i can weld it back together.

no oil in the coolant, and no coolant in the oil. selling as is for $600 or best offer, i can store it for a couple months if need be or can transport it a certain distance if you help with fuel costs. this thing NEEDS TO SELL QUICK!
