rockers starting to jump off
« on: Oct 13, 2007, 04:32:53 PM »
i'm sitting here looking at my truck, and notice that there is a big hole in my rocker panel. :-\  now originally i thought i was just going to cut off all the rust and hand form a new one. then i thought it would look .  so here is my list of options-

<buy a new rocker panel

<go to the j/yard find a good one, cut off, weld on

<go to the metal supermarket, buy some 2x4 square tube and make a much gooder stronger one

i like the last option the best. i just wanted to know if anybody has done something close to that and what your opinions are and if you have any suggestions. :gap:

you think nobody cares about you? try missing a couple of car payments.

patching holes are always fun. do what you think is best for your rig. i just patched a hole in my truck with sheet metal, JB weld and then shaped it with plastic metal, looks fine.. but I'll admit I'm not auto body pro. i think you could get a new rocker panel for your truck.

You can buy rockers straight from toyota for pretty cheap but they don't go all the way to the cab corner so be prepared to deal with that.

use the 2x4 tubing. we took 10" off the bottom of the body on this F-250 and made a slider/rocker out of 2x4.

thats along the lines of what i was thinking of. i am just going to cut off the old rocker right at the bottom of the door then down to the pinch weld and weld 2x4 tubing to the pinch weld and door sill. do you have any closer pics of how and what you did?
