I dont think its a typing error. I think he feels that 19,xxx miles = $15,000
if it was $1,500 it would be sold because i would pick it up.

He'd need the original wheels to be anywhere near close to authentic.  At this time it's just a clean truck worth MAYBE $6,000 or so :twocents:

If someone wants to pay 15,000 for that truck with 19,000 miles on it...buy mine for 15,000 and 14,000 miles on it!!!!!!!!!!!!    I don't see him being able to sell it for that much...blue book for an 89 with 14,000 (sr5) miles on it is about 4,000 bucks I think...don't see anybody wanting an 85 for that much.   :dunno:

Good lookin' truck though!

Actually, the guy doesn't really want to sell it.  He's half hoping somebody will be dumb enough to pay that much, and half hoping nobody will be serious enough so he gets to keep it.  He's probably trying to appease his wife.  "honey, I tried to sell it but nobody would buy it!"

I think he's thinking to try and make a market for the classic trucks like they did with the Cruisers.

It doesn't even have a tach, no carpet, deluxe door trim, no center consul, no tilt steering and it's an auto.

It happens with all cars or trucks eventually from 1970 Cuda's to 1967 VW Beetles. The worth is denied and tons of good examples are destroyed.  Next thing you know you cannot find any clean stock examples left. Take the early VW bugs people you to think those would be around forever after all they made tons of them. My friend mark in 1991 bought a mint Black on Red 1967 VW with only 22K original documented miles it came with every sheet of paper from it's birth. Plus a few "real" Empi / Speedwell parts he paid $7500 for it and people told him he was high for paying that much for a bug, in 2006 he sold it for $45k to a Japanese collector.

Right now in my opinion the 79-85 trucks are at the balancing point where there is hardly any clean examples left. I'm asked nearly weekly if I want to sell my 85, and most people but up a straw man argument about the ones they can buy off uncle John's farm for $1k to justify their insulting offers for mine.
It's really hard to say where the prices of these early trucks will go, but I don't see it heading down that is for sure.

i saw the thread started by the seller on pirate.  he said he was testing the water to see how much he could get for it.  everyone was telling him to contact toyota to see if they would buy it back from him.  i wonder if toyota would even do that and how much they would give him.  it was also everyone on the boards idea to sell it for that much...well more so around 12,000 i think.

someone that is going to pay that much is not looking to beat it, they want to keep it to collect only.

i doubt he'll get that much, but i could see someone paying around 8,000 for it.

No manual, no lift, no bars, no...

I think the theory on the misplaced decimal place is correct.  Maybe $3000, tops.

It's definitely not a missplaced decimal.  The guy thinks he can get somewhere around 15000
