3.4 No oil pressure??? running hot
« on: Sep 10, 2007, 03:33:13 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I did a 3.4 swap into my 94 4runner and I used a 3.0 oil pressure unit like Im suposed to with this swap. Its not registering any reading on my gauge. I rebuilt the motor very recently and its all wired and ready to go. Ive gotten it started but without reading any pressure in oil im affraid to turn it on and keep it running. the intake manifolds and heads are really hot after about 1min. running. So question how can I check my pressure to see if maybe just my gauge is out or if i truly have no pressure?

Also my lower radiator hose never seems to get hot while all other do. Bad therostat maybe? I also noticed if I run the motor till its hot i get a small leak out of a freeze plug which really sucks cause there brand new.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

buy a manual gauge from the auto parts store to check for oil pressure just screw it in where the sending unit goes. you can get one for like $20. sounds like you have no whater flow open the cap and see if the water in the radiator is geting hot if not the thermostate is probably closed.   check to see if the radiator hoses are geting sucked closed.

thanks 89 ya Im gonna pull the therostat and see if it flows better then ill also probably water test it and see if its even working.  The top of the rdaiator gets real hot yet the bottom and the lower hose stay cold.

haha ya of course.  I wouldnt make that mistake.  So I bought a manual gauge which I tested and it works however still no pressure is showing.  I do place the new hose that replaces the stock unit in the same spot right?

Na the pickup and tank are brand new and this motor came from a t100 and thats the tank im using and pickup tube.  i think i may have something clogging the line that would run directly to the oil pressure unit.  So im gonna try and crank the motor a few times with the unit off.  Hopefully it will shoot some oil if not Ill have to continue digging back into the motor to find the true cause.

regardless of being new, it could have been bent in shipping or packaging.   Good thing to check if no oil comes out of the sender port.
