My truck used to make a slight bearing noise, but it went away. After the 4.7 gears, it is very noticable, expecally when bogging the motor in 3rd or 4th gear (35 mph in 4th gear for example). I have a very strong feeling it is the large bearing in the center of the transfer case. Now, when I had the case apart, that bearing looked good, but I know it is the one making noise. When should I really start to worry about the problem?
I bought a spare transfer case, mainly for that bearing. When I fix the problem, should I swap the 4.7's into the new case, or put that bearing into the old case? The new case came out of a very beat up 84 with 120k on it, that had tranny bearing noise, so the entire tranny and tc were swaped.
FYI, I have a 89+ w56 and topshift case in my 85 currently out of an unknown truck.
Thanks for the help.
