v6 oil pan?? Done next question
« on: Aug 21, 2007, 05:32:26 PM »
Im swaping the oil pan on my 88 4runner w/ a 3.0 and from what i've read I need a T100 3.0 oil pan.  The question I have is the oil pan from a 4x2 truck with a 3.0 the same or does it have to be from a T100?

the 2WD and 4WD oil pans are different....

2WD is front oil pickup...
4WD is rear oil pickup...

hope this helps.

You have that backwards, I have a two-wheel drive 3.0 pan on mine and it is rear sump. You also need the oil pickup tube and screen, you should change the windage tray, and if you want the dip stick and tube . I did not change the dipstick and tube. When I filled it up with oil I started it and let it run for a few minutes, shut it off and let it sit for about fifteen minutes. Pulled the dipstick and made a new mark on it for full.

Yes and you can use the O P off a 3.4 2-wheel drive.

Here is a bit of a write up I did, it is mostly about when I installed the ram-assist in 03.

Then someone already changed it. Mine was front and I changed it to rear after I hit some whoops at JV at about 50 MPH and bent my Marlin tie-rod and barely dented the pan. That one got Marlin scratching his head!!!!!! You are talking about a 3.0 V-6 right?

So does this switch get you more compression clearance on a SAS'd 3.0?

No the current oil pan and the hydro assist ram want to occupy the same space. Also when I was doing my sas the axle had to be pushed pretty far forward for the tie rod to clear

'cuz the oil pan on my '93 definitely is limiting the compression travel. (Well, the bumpstops actually limit it, but they have to be that low to prevent the highsteer from hitting the pan...)

Are there other options for increasing the clearance there without raising the COG - truck is tippy enough as it is!

When I first installed the R-A on my truck I had it mounted on top of the axle and it came close to hitting the O-P. I then moved it in front of the axle and I now have plenty of clearance. I will be going full-hydro soon so and I will mount the ram in the same spot as it is now.

Sort of, if your axle comes down on both bump stops at the same time, yes it does limit the compression. However, if only one side meets the bump stop, it acts as a fulcrum allowing the wheel to be pushed up higher while the other side will go lower. The axle pivots on the bump stop.

In this picture, you can see the clearance with the 2-wheel drive pan. However, you also have to remember as the spring compresses, the axle moves back putting the tie rod closer to the sump of the O-P.

Ok so the oil pan swap is done but now im trying to find a good spot to mount my p/s cooler and the only spot i can come up with is on the inside of the frame rail on the pass front. do you think it will survive there or should i try and find a different spot? heres a pic of the cooler and where i want to mount it

If you have a manual transmission, get a radiator from an automatic truck and use the transmission cooler lines in the radiator for the PS cooling.

I should have a writeup soon - will be working on it this weekend.
