is it possible? I modified the generic sender that autometer uses to the toyota sender but it leaks and I don't like that. Not bad but you can smell fuel..

:ack: fuel leaks bring back bad memories my 79 cought on fire at sand lake, now what are u trying to do ur post didnt make any sense?? :dunno:

WHITE_TRASH

Im gonna guess that you are trying to install a fuel gauge sender in a toy tank correct?  If so I would cut the toy sender out of the tank and get a American tank sender mount from a junkyard tank and weld it in.

sould he drain the tank frist? :dunno:

or just gas weld it in like it sets

KYOTA

I saw them throwing lit cigs in a toilet full of gas on Mythbusters and nothing happened, should be alright. :headscratch:

WHITE_TRASH

Gas isnt flamable, but of course the vapors are VERY flamable.  Any time I have welded a gas tank it gets thouroghly flushed and is alowed to dry completely to help dissipate any vapors.  Then its filled with water again and welded.  Yall are nuts you know that?

draining it takes all the fun out of it, lol

WHITE_TRASH

yep sure takes the fun out of running screaming like a little girl while on fire! lol  Ive found after extensive research that weldin is much more enjoyable when one isnt on fire!

u shure about that it was quite fun watching a friend in oil soaked coveralls running around the shop whith his crotch on fire from a spark it was funny

WHITE_TRASH

Maybe I should refrase that, its more enjoyable for the person welding if he/she isnt on fire!  Its actually kinda funny to watch someone else welding while theyre on fire.

Actually it was.  Sorry Brandon we jacked it ;(  Actually you have an external pump with your injection right?  Why not use a fullsize bronco tank?  As far as Ive seen Autometer uses a pretty generic sender bolt pattern, that would install easily in either a ford or chevy tank.

You can weld your gas tank with gas in it  you just have to purge the tank with something like nitrogen to eliminate all the oxygen from the tank. This is how they do it a truck shops when a Big Rig comes is with a leak in a tank that just left the gas station.

no, my pump is internal - EFI yota tank.

so the automeater gage and the stock yota sender won't work together?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

WHITE_TRASH

nope, autometer usually uses a gm type sender meaning it work from 90-300 miliohms I believe

thinking that there maybe some way to make the autometer gage "talk" to the stock yota sender :dunno:

WHITE_TRASH

doubtfull as they run on different ohm readings

well if the toy uses more "ohums" than the automeater, you can put a resiter in line

According to Autometer website:
Late (after '65) GM:       F = 30 ohm, E = 0 ohm
Pre '65 GM:                  F = 90 ohm, E = 0 ohm
Ford after '89:              F = 158 ohm, E = 16 ohm
Chrysler & pre '89 Ford:  F = 8 ohm,   E = 73 ohm
Autometer (VDO std.):   F = 33 ohm, E = 240 ohm

From an '85 FSM:
Toyota truck (4wd):       F = 3 ohm,   E = 110 ohm

The Toyota sender is opposite (high resistance at empty instead of full) from all the Domestics except early Ford and VDO std., but the ranges are totally different.

brainlessfool

well I see that the AM. and the toy both go from low to high as they go from f to empty.
if it where me doing it I'd get a pot and make the gage read empty when it is, then see where it land when full.
werth a look :crossed:
