Shock mounting using Marlin's knuckle ball kit?
« on: Jun 10, 2007, 09:03:23 PM »
Does anyone know the exact shock mounting configuration when using the knuckle ball kit?  The pic on the site doesn't give a clear direction on where the parts/pieces should go.  I took a few pics in hopes some of the resident experts can lend a hand.  There seems to be a couple different ways to do this, but none of them really seem to be any better than the other.  The upper gusset has what appears to be a 9/16" hole, although the bolt is only 1/2".  That seems a bit weird too.  Anyway, here are a couple of configs:

Here's what you get:

The red bushing is substituting for the shock:

The bolt flipped around:

Lots of slack!

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

i asked the same question on here and never got a good answer......... seems the thread has gone bye bye now...

i was thinking about just weldiing the bolt head to the face of the gusset and using a shorter bolt (not using the spacer thingy)

I thought about welding it too; seems it would be much stronger.

I love your avatar BTW; I was reading a different post and noticed it and made my wife come look at it.  I have plenty of those stickers and our 2 year old sure could use one!

Weld it up, then see how it feels with the shock mounted. :yesnod:

You weld them to the top and bottom of the stops for the knuckle.

The triangles are used to bolster the stock stops, they weld to the top and bottom fore and aft of all the stops.

I wanted to make sure before I welded them there and find out later that's not where they go.

Thanks a lot guys!

you can beat a 1/2 nut or two in the middle of the triangle and beef the inside up too.

Here's one for ya....

What about overheating the housing, or bearings, or anything for that matter? Should the entire axle be disassembled or can you weld a small bead and break for 10 -15 minutes?
What did you do today?
