Newbie needs help on T/case leakage
« on: Jun 05, 2007, 07:52:42 PM »
I gotta 91 model that has a fresh trans rebuild. The problem is that after I got it back it is leaking out of the top of the transfer case shifter. It never has before. Leaking Around the snap ring and the bowl looking ring on top. Is there a seal in there somewhere? I took it out today to see if I could do any good but didnt. It only leaks when Im in 4th and 5th gear. It has a body lift and the floor pan is notched so I can see it while driving. Any insight to this would be great! :headscratch:

Is it overfilled?  Pull the fill plug.  Oil level should be just below/at the plug.  (ie, Oil should NOT come out, if oil does comes out, it's overfilled, let it come out.)

If it has too much oil, it can "splash" out.

edit.  added an important word..  NOT!  :D

Pop off the shifter and see if the metal shield is in there. It needs to be there or it will splash/leak.
