3.4 swap???
« on: Jun 04, 2007, 11:18:56 PM »
so i have a 89 runner, 3.0 v6, manual trans.  the donor i just bought is a 2000 runner 5vz with an automatic.
ive read ors about the swap and all that, and they say that somtimes the auto 3.4 wont mate to a 3.0 5 speed.
so has anyone done the auto 3.4 to man. 3.0 swap? if so waws there anything tricky or somthing i should look out for? and anyone in general have any tips and/or info on the swap.
thanx
steve

my  Buddy is doing that swap, you are going to need a manual ECU, you can cut the engine wiring harness apart and remove the auto stuff (but you should check that all of the other wires in the harness go to the same place on the ECU in the auto. and the manual trans. you can get that info from the FSM) I'm almost positive that they do.
save the oil presher sending unit from your 3.0, and put it on the 3.4 it will bolt right up(if you use the 3.4's OPS you will fry your oil presher gauge)

as for the transmission you need to pull the trany on you r Donner truck and look to see if there is a hole in the end of the crank for a pilot baring.  if there is you good, if not i think you can take the crank out and take it to an engine shop that dose crank balancing and they should be able to Manichean it in the end of the crank for ya.

i just finished the swap way way easy and i swaped out a 22re for a 3.4 out of a 2 wheel drive auto 4runner. you need a ecu from the same year vehicle as the 3.4 with a manual it can be 2x4 or 4x4 it dont matter. you will need the bellhousing to block brackets off your 3.0 along with the plate between the engine and tranny. you do need to check for a pilot brg hole in the crank. the starter from the automatic will work if you use the 3.4 flywheel and clutch. all i bought from ors was the harness was a 5 wire hookup very nice harness you dont need the ors battery harness you can make one for about $20. if you have any specific questions i may be able to help. there is a few good writeups on 4x4 wire and yotatech and i think there is a few on pirate. i have the links saved if you would like them. it is a very easy swap.
