Why are long shackles not 4by worthy? I really see no problem with having that long shackle other than it will catch rocks and look cheesy. You will have a ton of droop from the axle and you benefit from the longer length of the spring without otherwise having to remount the hangers. I would rather have the long shackle and retain the flex than run a add a leaf or remount the stock springs. I would encourage you to flex out that setup and see how good it works before you put add a leafs or some other junk in there. I would keep it until you can do it right.
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

I am going to keep it, but I definately need to brace it.
Like you said, until I can really afford to do it all right.

So, in the meantime - anyone got a chunk of metal that would fit nicely in there?

use that chunk of metal off the front hanger, make two square gussets to go into each shackle. weld them up, also I would like to state I said LOOK more 4by worthy, didnt say be more 4by friendly, I guess I coulda said to make it look better he could to a 1/4 elip, but I dont see anything wrong with running long shackles, honestly geometry says that a long shackle at the right angle could make for one hell of a soft, long travel spring out of anything.
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

Any suggestions for a cure?  I'm open to anything.
If anyone happens to have something that would fit, please let me know and I'd be happy to compensate you for it.

Thanks guys.

Mike says just weld plates to sides across shackles,  so you make tubes out of them..  scrap pieces would work good.

Mrsvman, what an excellent avatar ya got there.  Thanks for the suggestion.  The more I think about it, the more I think top to bottom(tubing it out) is the way to go.

Cool.  Cheers.
