Marlin 5" kit pics
« on: May 14, 2007, 11:26:27 AM »
Well I came into some money and I am thinking of getting the marlin 5" kit for my 84 runner.  I am assuming that the marlin lift is one of the best in the market (for quality and flex), and with the 5 inch lift I should be able to run a 36" tire with minimal trimming.  What length shackles do ya'all recommend to run (a longer shackle in the rear than up front due to the sagging effect!)  Go easy on the newbee please, i am just learning the ways of the yota's!!!

I was just going to get their rear kit, and piece together the front, but by the time I finished pricing everything, and getting the high steer, I was over the cost of their total kit!  I just want to make sure I am getting the best bang for the buck!  I have never spent this much on a lift kit!  I just want to make sure I am making a good decision!

If anyone has this kit on their truck or 4runner (w/o a body lift), I would love to get some pics (just sitting, and flexin if possible).  I want to see how she will sit, and flex!  Also any common problems people ran into installing the lift!  Any detailed instructions, or does it come with them?

Also, does anyone have a good link for switching p/s boxes, or is it a straight forward swap?

Here are some pics of the $runner right now (with maybe a 4 inch lift and 35 bfg m/t's)!

Current suspension kit does not flex at all!  Hence why it has to go!

I have the 5" kit but I also have a 3" Body had to for the V8.  I have not had it on the trail yet.  The MC kit did not have instructions with it.  When I spoke to them they told me to go to one place on their web page and print for the front and they would e mail the rear instructions.  I just went to All Pro and printed their instructions.  Seemed to work fine but I have not wheeled mine yet.  :crossed:

Thanks for the pic!  What size tire do you run?  How did the install go?  Run into any problems?

You don't need the 5" kit to run 36s. I did a 4" SAS with Marlins springs and I have 36" Iroks. My truck is way too high right now. I was going to go with the 5" springs but I'm very glad I didn't.

Yeah 36" Iroks.  No problems.  It is a real nice kit.  Just print directions from All Pro and everything goes together real well

Thanks for the help guys!  I ended up going with the 5" kit!  It was on sale too , so i figured it the kit is to big for the tires, with the $'s i saved, i can put that towards some bigger tires!  I ordered up a spool for the rear (wanted to get rid of the lincon locked rear), and diff armor for the front and rear.  going to be a fun install!

i also got put on a waiting list for the 4.70 t-case gear set!  They say it may be a month or so!  O well, i have the 5.29's in the diff's so that is not to bad at the moment!  I guess i can wait!

I am going to have to re-work how my front bumper is mounted though.  Some pics of how people have theirs mounted for idea's!

The 5" spring is a better spring than the 4" anyway. Way more flex and softer.
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

Hello everyone, I am also planning on purchasing the marlin 5" for my 84 runner and was wondering what you guys thought of using the marlin 4" springs for the front and 5" in the rear to compensate sag?  Or is removing a leaf in the front from the 5" leaf a better idea?

Great site btw, i've been a lurker for a while now.

What are your shackle angles at?  How does the 5" kit flex?  I cant wait to finish mine, and test her out.  how much did the springs settle?  Got any pics of the IFS steering box installed?

Here's my '83 a little flexed with the 5" kit and 38's
I was just curious, boggers are directional, why put two of them going the wrong way?

My shackles are at about 45 degrees on both. The 5" kit flexes really well, yet so does the 4". I have to clearance my front fenderwells because of running the 38's on the 1st gen but on the 3rd I only had to trim a little off the rear. The springs settled about an inch on the 3rd gen and on the 1st I still need to get a few good trail runs on it to make sure. The 5" is a little tall for me but the 38's don't help. When I took the picture in the sand I had JUST finished the lift so I threw the tires on and headed off the pavement as fast as I could to flex it out, so I didn't even realize two of the boggers were on backwards at first! But I had to pull them off again anyway right after so no biggie. I may be able to get some more pictures soon, But I'm a little predisposed half way around the world right now if you know what I mean.  I'll have someone email me some though. I think I have one of the steering gear as well as the extended shock towers that go into my engine compartment...
