WTB: 79-83 Tailgate
« on: May 13, 2007, 08:19:24 PM »
I am looking for a stock smooth tailgate in good shape. They look like this.

I have two tailgates with the same recess, but they have TOYOTA stamped in them. I will trade you, or trade and pay extra for the smooth one. Or just simply buy the smooth one. I would just like to acquire one within the next month or so before I start building my bed. I'd rather not modify mine to look like that, as it will be a lot of extra work.

Be sure to mention if you want a center pull or a side latch tailgate. I'm not sure which will work where, but it might be important :dunno:

I've actually never seen a "smooth" one other than the one pictured.

Considering he has a picture of a center pull I'd say that's what he's looking for

I actually don't care which one it is, it won't have any latches when I'm done with it.

And I always see this little gold 81 around town with a smooth tailgate. I can never flag him down to see if I can buy it off him or trade him though. I've got two decent tailgates, I just want a smooth one.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I know what it is.  It's a gold longbed, right?  If memory serves it's a "california special" or something like that.  They're the only ones I remember being smooth.

Yeah it is a gold longed. And its got some Special stick on the side of the bed. Lol. You in the same area I take it?

I guess nobody has one. Or if they do, they want to keep it for themselves.

Nope, I just remember seeing the ads from an ooooold magazine, and that was something that stuck in my mind.  They're gold and had a smooth tailgate.

not sure if this is an option for you... but there is a custom company in oroville, ca that says they make a flat skin for the tailgate... might wnatto get in contact with them

http://grantkustoms.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=9_63

looks liek they are $120 without the options, but im sure you would do that yourself.... might be mreo $$$$ than a tailgate, but... might be an option for you

Is one of the good gates you have in good shape and side latches?

I'd be interested if you'ld take $50, and be willing to take it to UPS and have them slap a sticker on it.

I checked shipping, and it should be $50-$60.

OH yeah, SWEET ass ride you got...I been following yer build thread.
