Axles Under Water: Change Fluids?
« on: Apr 22, 2007, 04:33:30 PM »
I got my truck stuck on friday and I didn't get it out until sunday.  The rear axle was in water up to the center of the hub and the front was about 3 inches under water.  Do I need to change out my fluids or not?
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6  Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love and in purity.  1 Timothy 4:12

I probably would just to be on the safe side.....might cost a few bucks but might save you a few hundred...plus it only takes like 15 minutes to do

While your under there extend your diff breathers so you don't ever had to worry about it again.

most def, bro! it'll save your gears/bearings.  Much cheaper to waste 30 bucks you might not need than to spend 200 you don't have.

If I had a hub submerged under water for 1.5 day's, ontop of checking the fluids (whether or not you have extended breathers.) I'd pull the locking hubs off to insure I didn't fill my hubs with water.
