Dummy lights comming on.... and off... and on.....
« on: Mar 26, 2007, 05:52:29 AM »
I got done replacing the spark plugs, wire's, and completely changing out the rear diff seal.... and now my battery light is flashing on and off...what could be making this happen??? I haven't really had time to check to see if the wire from the battery to the alternator is good, but i know the battery posts are good and tight... So what do you think??? I need some advise...

Have your alternator checked, thats what happens when it starts going bad.

Not always the case. So, If your alt goes out your truck will rev to 3k to keep power to the battery. If your light is twitching i would check your terminals. Could be as simple as not having them tight enough. befor throwing 170$ at a new alternator get it checked along with your battery.
Starting from scratch again...

do the 3rd gens have external regulators? if so id also have that checked. but like sacd runner said, check all your connections, (battery, alternator, and grounds). could be a loose wire bouncing around. if all of em look good, have the alternator checked.

The cables on the terminals are tight, so it's got to be a ground or ????

or the alternator is goin. while you are down there, also make sure the wire from the alternator is on tight, if its not, then try it again. if its tight then take it out, have it checked at a local parts place. chances are, if its the original alternator its gonna be due for a new one.

I believe it's the original from purchase from dealership. If so, thats a lot of miles on such a small thing.
