Author Topic: I finally got to wheel my truck! (Read 3538 times)

This has been a year to this month in the making, but it finally happened. Duals are in and I got the front shaft made up.

Here I am flexing it out and seeing how things do.

The brake lines are all fine the only problem I have is that the 12" Bilsteins aren't enough. I am going to go out next weekend and disconnect a shock to see how much more I need. If it isn't much I will mess with the shock hoops. If it is a lot I will get some 14" and mess with the shock hoops.

The biggest problem is the 33"s. I am going to upgrade to 37"s, but before that I have to get some new diffs. I have 4.88s right now and like being able to stay in 5th gear.

A bed bob and a nice soft top are coming soon. I want to take my oldest son out with and he needs some shade for the car seat in the rear.

I am very very pleased with the duals and stock gears. There were a few spots where the guy I was following (standard case, 5.29s, and 37"s) had to give it a good bit of throttle. Where I just put it in low, low, 2nd and walked up it.

Lots of thanks to Marlin, Sky, All-Pro, and the other vendors for making so many wonderful parts. I can weld and cut, but the quality of your fab and work is appreciated.

congratulations on getting it going. Were there any more issues besides the shocks that you want to change. After my first time out I was so stoked!

Weird, I am out here at Nellis and I can get the Photobucket no problem. Must be different for the AF filters.

I did a bed bob this weekend. I took 9" out of the bed and a good bit out of the frame. I need to redo the rear shackles. The angle is pretty bad since the extra weight came out. Maybe after the interior cage, tailgate, and spare it will settle down. I'll have to see.

Here is a picture of the rear crossmember. We notched the frame to set this 3x3 tubing into it. It is fully welded all the way around and the tubing is the exact distance of the frame rails. So it is solid.

You can see the bondo nightmare the previous owner left me. Atleast it will make it easy to hide the weld when I do the body work.

I will when it gets closer to winter. I am buying a bikini top for some shade for the boys during the warmer months.
