Do you have a picture of it?  Kinda sounds like a PTO (power take off) t-case?

They are very rare in the US. That guy didn't know what he had.

$50 is a great deal for any RF1A toy gear driven t-case, let alone one as rare as that one. Marlin has the only two PTO cases in the US that I have been able to find reference to so far. And there is a guy in N.Z. that has one, and he said that they are pretty rare over there too.
  It should work fine behind a crawl box, marlin is, (or was) running one in his truck.

I think I read here some where that the PTO was for a water pump for pick up based firetrucks.

Marlin would probably buy it, or trade for some mechandice. The only difference I have been able to find between the PTO case and a reg. case is the PTO opening, so why don't you just use what you have?

cuz i like to buy and sell and make money... and i have a guy that has a topshift tcase for 50 bucks here localy.

here are the tcases i have.

i have access to one broken topshift.
i have 1 forward shift that i stole parts out of the topshift to convert for my middle case.
then this top shift with the pto.  i think im going to use it for the cool factor to say I HAVE a rare tcase ya know.

i think ill buy this topshift for 50 bucks so i dont have to convert my forward shift.  but.... im going to convert it anyways just incase i blow a tcase i have a spare 2.28 to get me off the trail ya know.

what yall think of those ideas ?

That looks like an L-43 input, and there's no bearing retainer clip :headscratch:. Here's the info from the T-Case Bible about the PTO cases.
    Type 5 PTO EFI 4Cyl
    * Unique PTO (Power Take-Off) access port on housing #1 (reduction housing)
    * 4-bolt rectangular PTO mount flange
    * External device powered by the Low Speed Idler Gear
    * External device believed to be a Water Pump on International Toyota Fire Trucks
    * Tall Case
    * Top or Forward Shift
    * Quiet Run Gears
    * 10mm Flange Bolts
    * With Bearing Retainer Clip
    * 21 Spline Input
    * 27 Spline Outputs
Looks like you have a rely early version of the PTO case. :bowdown:

  Not if the Trans was in gear and the T-case was in Neutral.
