High Steer
« on: Feb 16, 2007, 08:46:50 PM »
So I need to buy a pitman arm to go with my high steer, lift and IFS box.
Running rears up front, Inchworm high steer arms...lift is about 5" total.

What arm do I need to buy?

If you buy the hi-steer kit from Marlin it'll come with an arm.  The one in the kit will be fine with 5 inches. :beerchug:

If you mount the box right I'd say 2 inches. :dunno:  I ran 3" with mine and the arm would contact my springs on full stuff. But my box was mounted pretty flat.  I bought a flat arm from some place that I can't even remember right now( too many ) :gap:

I already have all the parts I need for high steer out side of a pitman arm.

Thats where I got mine!! :hammerhead:

Since you already have the stuff and just need the arm, buy the one Marlin sells.

I'll gladly buy Marlin's (I need to get my FJ80 TREs from him) but will it work with my suspension set up?
I don't want to buy the wrong arm and be up :pokinit: creek...

Have you put the springs on the rig yet?  If not and you are worried I would get the lift on and then the steering arms then mount the box with Marlins arm on it. That way you can mount it in a position that it will not interfer with anything.

Don't have the springs on yet.
Want to have all the parts here so I have as little down time as possible.

I think I'm going to grab Marlin's Pitman Arm.

The critical point here is the box mounting.  If you blow that or the bumpstops, you'll hit anyway.  You also have to watch your tie rod to pitman arm clearance.  I worked all of these angles very carefully and I still get teh slightedst bit of contact between the two...

Is it possible to drill and ream the stock IFS arm for an FJ80 TRE?

Yes you can. That's what my arm is. You can buy the inserts for the pitman arm. Just be careful when you weld the insert in. I couldn't get the castle nut on far enough to get the cotter pin is so I had to improvise. I do think Marlin has one piece arms made now so you shouldn't have that problem like I several have had.

X2 on SKY's billet pitman arm...
It is the BEEF. And a way to change the geometry of the steering. I bought mine to correct my problem of the All Pro pitman arm T.R.E. hitting the tie rod. Many people had told me to notch my frame in that critical area. fools!  :hammerhead: The O.T.T. Industries arm looks sweet too. :puke: Wheres the BEEF?
Does Marlin have a Billet Pitman in their Billet Hi- steer kit? Or do they give you the standard?
