HIGH BEAMS DON'T WORK
« on: Feb 16, 2007, 02:49:19 PM »
Here's the problem: Truck is a 1980. The high beams only work when you use the "flash to pass", when you put them on in the normal position they will not go on. I'm at a loss, but I'm thinking it's the switch. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I believe your truck should have 3 fuseable links (coming of the hot side of your battery). That would be where I would check first.

I don't think it's that just because they work on "flash to pass" I'll check anyway though, thanks.

It most likely is in the switch.  Take a light tester and check your wires.  Find out which wire sends the signal to the high beems, trace it back to the wiring from the light switch and see if it's outputting when you pull back.  If not, problem is for sure in the switches and you could just snag some from a junk yard.  This is a good time to upgrade to intermittent wipers if you don't already have them, but remember to get the intermittent relay too so it'll work

That's what I was thinking too. Weather is crappy here now so I'm waiting. Thanks, will update when I get it figured out.

Yes it could be the switch, but make sure your fusible links are good. Had this issue before and it was the fusible links.
