:tantrum: hijacking my thread arggggg! just kiddin doesnt bother me.

by the looks of that red chevy i'm should see if i can push my front axle foreward some and go with the 6" lift. noticed in some spots he kept having to force the front bumper into the rocks and i plan on making a pipe bumper (4" pipe that i got for dirt cheap), so i'm gonna need to tuck that in really close as well. he bobbed the bed quite a bit as well, but maybe i can get by without doing that for a little while.

this weekend i'm gonna call the local junkyards, see if i can find a tbi setup to replace my carb, stop running so friekin rich. lucky to get 5mpg city driving right now and i have a 305, when i was up in utah i got about 13-15 around town, 19 highway at best (and i have an sm465, no overdrive). what should i do next? keep in mind i'm on a tight budget. should i go for a drop in locker for the 12 bolt rear, go ahead and get the longer brake lines, save for the diesel swap (6bt would require me to use a different t-case, i think the marlin unit would be tested at 400-450ft/lbs of torque, a 6bt can go much higher than that), upgrade to a 14 bolt ff rear axle, dana 60 front, lift it up, winch, which do yall think should be my next step after going to tbi?

also, when i got that 4" diameter 5/16" thick pipe i also got a 48" high lift jack that works just fine going up, but i cant figure out how to make it slowly lower, just plumet to the bottom. not bad for 29 bucks, over 14 feet of pipe and a high lift jack.

heres some pics of the bed, easily the rustiest part of the truck. do yall think i should use this bed or make a flatbed? i carry cargo from time to time that wont fit in a tool box, but i also dont want to drag my tail end on sharp drop offs.

That ol beast would look pretty badass with a bobbed bed. you could always start with a bob and move to a flatbed later on if you dont like it. nice project

That is axle hill on pritchett canyon here in Moab. About half the group climbed it and the other half had to winch\be dragged up it.
You have a Jeep?  That's cute.... So does Barbi.

i just found one hell of a steal if i can get lucky at the credit union! theres a guy in dallas selling a cummins 6bt from a 1992 dodge ram with 220k miles. engine runs good, all accessories are included, he wants 1000 bucks. if i get a loan it will cost me less than 100 bucks a month, i figure i'll go for a 1500 dollar loan so i have some money to go pick it up, a radiator, motor mounts, adapter so i can bolt it to my sm465, new clutch/throwout bearing, and cleaning out or replacing my fuel tanks. i hope i get lucky!

well i missed out on the deal, got outbid.

something i learned yesturday, the wheelbase on my regular cab long bed is 2" longer than the wheelbase on a suburban.

Wow, and I thought my suburban was about as long as it gets. are you keeping that wheelbase or are you going to shorten it at all?

when i had the 89 suburban and the 94 suburban i thought it was as long as a crew cab short bed, but its quite a bit shorter. didnt know that until yesturday when i saw the wheelbase #'s. what year suburban do you have?

i'm not going to shorten the wheelbase unless i need to, should be able to get by without doing it. 1st steps right now though are to improve my fuel economy. need to open up the exhaust and make a cold air intake for my 305, help get me by until i can swap in a diesel. anybody have a carb or a tbi setup for a small block chevy? talked to a mechanic today who specializes in carbed vehicles, said that since my jets arent tapped on my carb it would be cheaper to change to a different carb or go to tbi.

didnt bring my camera out today but me friend and i got the rustiest part of my truck cleaned up and primered, the floor of the bed. fuel economy has gone up now to an average of 13mpg city (warmer temps).

the suburban is a 1990 1500. its not actualy mine. it belongs to my old man, but i use it a lot for towing and hauling stuff. Im trying to get him to give it to me when he doesnt want it anymore. I have already saved the old beast from getting sold a few times. Its just a really good old truck. My pops bought it brand new in 1989 and it has 290k on the origional engine, trans and tcase. i blew out the rear end in high school doing a burnout but otherwise the drivetrain is all origional. i love the old bowtie though, that truck and I have had some good times!!  :beerchug:
