85 22re High Nox
« on: Jan 30, 2007, 02:30:06 PM »
Hello All

Well after the 3rd trip to my local Ca test only station , my 85 4runner has yet again failed the pretest inspection. It measured @ 15mph - CO2 - 14.9 / O2 - 1.0 / HC - 20 / CO - 0.02 / NOX - 3916       @ 25mph CO2 - 15.3 / O2 - 0.5 / HC - 13 / NOX - 4311 . I've installed and tested a new EGR valve , running 87 octane , it runs smooth and idles good. It has a new dt header , o2 sensor ,2.5" cat and exhaust. From what I've read on several posts is that it's more than likely the EGR valve. I don't really have anyway of testing that it's actually getting the correct signal under load. Is there a way of testing these under load ? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Snowcat

you need to put a vac gauge on the vac line to the egr and see if it gets vac whan you rev the engine..if not go to the other side of the transducer and check there and so on until you find where the vac has ben lost..the other is apply vac to the egr while it is idleing and make sure it tries to die..that tells you the passage is clear.

Would bigger tires have a affect?  I have to get mine smoged at a test only, and was wondering, if I where to shift one box into 2.28 and run it that way..

i had trouble with high nox on my 85 running 35's.i spent $800 trying to get the problem fixed and still failed with high nox.finally went to referre and failed because i didn't have proper info on header, anyway, he suggested putting on smaller tires.i swapped the 35's for some 31's and passed with flying colors.maybe this will help u out..
