Topic: will tail gate from same fit?

I am thinking about finding a truck tail gate to put on my 85 4runr for when I take the topper off, use the tail gate to wheel with during the summer and not have the extra weight of the window, window motor etc. just wondering if it will fit, or maybe I could fab up a tube frame gate that uses the stock gate hinges.  My only motivation is weight.

Ya, you'd save on some weight, but IMO it's not worth the hassle of changing them out. The added weight really isn't going to hurt you. If it was a CJ, which have a tendancy to wheelie, then i'd say go for it, but your runner isn't going to know the differance. Marlin carries enough spare parts in the bed of his rig to build 5 trucks and does every trail in the country.

if anything, that extra weight will help your springs flex instead of lifting up off the ground.
