Axle shims
« on: Jan 08, 2007, 11:11:55 AM »
Quick Ques.
I need advice on pinion angles.  I have an '82 4x4 Longbed.  I have a 4.5" lift on it.  Currently I have a single T-case  with an L50 tranny, but before I am done with my build I will have a dual setup.  I was wondering if with the duals and this much lift it would be wise to add axle shims to help with pinion angle.  What shim degree would be sufficient?

I am not very good at welding yet and don't want to rotate spring perches. this sounds like a good solution for the time being.

Thanks, Daniel Z

Without moving the perches, you'll probably need shims.  But you won't know exactly how much tilt you'll need until you're done building it and ready to attach driveshafts.

FYI, the best price and selection I've found on shims for adjusting pinion angle / caster angle is summit.

Great!!  I have a lot more to do, but want to be ready when I am there.  I already have the front done, but its not hard to slide a shim in.  Much Easier that re-welding a spring perch right now.

Roger Brown will make 'em however you want. Bolt on, weld on, you pick the angle.
