Will my 83 L52 trans fit in my 88 4Runner
« on: Feb 14, 2004, 09:40:40 PM »
Worried about shifter location. I heard that the L52 is shorter. I'll be using dual t-cases.

Also concerned about strength for use with a 22re and 37" tires. Should I pony up for the W56?

Thanks

There is no good excuse not to follow the pick-up!

The 40-50 percent weaker L52 is 4 1/2" shorter and the shifters will be off as well. The crossmember will need to be moved, and both driveshafts will have to be shortened as well.

If you have to use the L52, go easy on 5th gear and use a good gear oil.

I can rebuild a W56HD for you
Do not put in the weaker L52.
