Well we spent last weekend pulling out the ratty old shrubbery and planted new stuff.
The pulling out part was easy, Mark just wrapped a strap around it and pulled it out with the Mammoth.
I didn't even have a chance to get a before shot, by the time I saw it most of the plants were already out.

The first pic is a before, of sorts, it's from christmas a few years back.
In the second pic you can see all the plants that were ripped up.
Third you can see the scraggly bushes and the new stuff getting lined up.
Lastly, the plant planted. You gots yer typical fence type shrubbery down by the fence (eventually, it's got some growing to do!)
There are holly's under all the windows (YOW that stuff smarts!) alternated with a red leaf azalea.

owning your own place is nice,as far as being able to do what you want and all that stuff. But on the other hand it can be a headache.Having to fix stuff yourself or paying someone else to do it sux.Unless you just love doing stuff like that. And then if you ever want to move, that's a whole nother thread.

OK.. here's the latest... Mark's been working on taking up the floor in the master bedroom. We're going to take up most of the wood floor and put down carpet.

Sat. he walls and ceiling sprayed for the knockdown finish and Sun. he got to painting... with the wagner sprayer!  :yikes:

In the meantime I spent Sat. laying down 1.1 ton of river rock over the weedblock barrier paper around the bushes we put in last week.
In the pic of the truck I had already shoveled out about 1/3 of the rocks.

You can see the nifty scaffold in teh BR window. I bought it Mark on Friday from Home Depot, he was loving it for working on the ceiling and high on the walls.

OK then Sunday, while waiting for the knockdown to dry on the walls Mark worked some on getting a remote gate opener on the side gate.

Meanwhile, I decided it would be a good idear to put new plants in the old rose garden.

As you can see by the before pic... it was very old... the only rose bush left standing is a climbing rose that gets very scraggly.

So I dug out at least a few hundred pounds of river rock, pruned back the one rose bush left (it's still a good bush it just needs some TLC) and got 6 new rose bushes of varying sizes and colors.

  Oh MWM!  You hid that paint suit on purpose didn't you!  hahaha

OK, so here is the Taco Palace.  hahaha.  We've owned our house for about 6 years now.  It looks like a normal 2-story house on the outside but on the inside there are two apartments on the first floor, and then we live on the whole second floor and we have the big open attic too, which we plan to remodel someday in the hopefully not too distant future.  Anyway, when we remodel, we do it x3!  :thud:   I'll post up some pics of things we did to the outside and our own apartment for now though.

You can't see the front landscaping very well but we put in split-rail corner fence in each corner, and did some planting there, but my favorite thing about the front yard is my pretty little weeping cheery tree, which I have named Gracie.   She's not flowering in this picture, but I'll get a good flowering pic this spring.

When we first bought the house it was garage-less.  THAT certainly couldn't last for long!  haha.  First pic is a view out our back window to what the back yard/driveway used to look like.  Second one is in progress, third pic is what we see now when we look out the same back window.  haha

We always had this skinny useless strip of land between our back sidewalk and the neighbor's fence.  There was some old crappy landscaping in there but it was just an overgrown pain in the :moon: so last spring we decided to tidy up a bit.  We planted 6 flowering Dogwood trees (2 are on the other side of the yard that you can't see here), and a bunch of that ornamental grass stuff.  We put river stone in the little strip beside the garage too.  I love it!  I can't wait to see the trees flower this spring!

OK.....our first major remodel inside was our own bathroom.  It was nasty!!   :shudder:

The shower was one of those old rounded cast iron things, which I wouldn't have minded, they can be cool sometimes, BUT they had this one all built in!!  You felt like you were in some weird space capsule!  haha!  Not to mention, the walls were lined with vinyl flooring.   Which was also peeling off and mildewing.  I hated it.  We gutted the whole thing, kept only the toilet.

The thing about older homes is you never know WHAT you're going to find!  We found a window behind the old tub!  hahaha.  So we built it in with glass blocks, and I LOVE it.   Here is before, during and after:

Before..EWWW!:

During....check out the window we found!  haha:

After 1...the new glass blocks:

After 2....all back together:

The next thing we did in our apartment was repaint the boy's room.  There was really strange wallpaper....it was kind of thick and quilted, and it was paintable.  The quilted design looked like toilet paper!  hahaha.  And it was such a robin egg blue...I just didn't like it.  And the seams stuck out like a sore thumb.  So we scraped all the wallpaper off and went with a neutral tanish color with a country border.  I don't like borders now, so we might re-do the room again soon.  But this was over 5 years ago.  Anyway, here's the before and after:

And finally (for now anyway...hehe)....our latest accomplishment was our own bedroom.  It had the same yucky toilet paperish wallpaper, only this time baby pink.  hahaha.  I've been peeling it off for YEARS but just finally dug in and really got 'er dun!  We also did crown molding....all by ourselves!!!  We used corners and dividers so we wouldn't have to do the miter cuts.  But I really like it!

Wow Taco's!   :clap2:  nice work! I love that you found a window behind the vinyl wall flooring! LOL! that is so cool.
Like a secret window :shhh:
The old tub would have been cool if it wasn't built in like that.

That house is gorgeous. I can't wait to see the spring flowering pics.
Can't wait to get pics of my roses. Here's one that bloomed right as I was planting it... check out how nice it smells... :yesnod:
