House Projects
« on: Jan 01, 2007, 12:30:27 PM »
Anyone else having fun around the house?
If it's not one thing it's another.. Mark decided to remodel the master bath and tore three of the 4 walls out. I know we have some before pics somewhere, but here are the during.
The tile is all new (obviously) and Mark is building the cabinets as well.

Then yesterday we went to Sam's Club to look at outdoor fireplaces and ended up having to modify the entertainment center to fit this little beauty! :haha:

First is the before picture of the entertainment center..
The fitting in the new addition... following that is Mark and Nosey checking it out.
Mark borrowed some router bits from Nosey to rout the boards to finish the front.
Mark finished it this morning adding more shelves and staining it.

Well MINI is not around this week (movin' into his new house) but I know he would love to add something so I 'll help him:

Someone thought it would be a good idea to install wallpaper straight to the sheetrock so that the next homeowner would have one hell of a time removing it.

who wants to help MINI decid where to put all this stuff in his new house ???

best way to remove popcorn celling is ....... HELP !!!

Oldyeller - in re: Popcorn ceiling... Mark says: water in a pump up sprayer, just enough to went it down, it'll mud up and you scrap it off with a putty knife. Put the putty knife on a long pole so you can reach from the ground.

And I don't know how you removed the wallpaper but I heard you can mix one-third cup fabric softener with two-thirds cup hot water and spray it on. Supposedly it comes right off.
We'll be getting to the kitchen soon enough.

YES!

We're having alot of "fun" as well with home upgrades. We're sanding the mud right now and getting ready for final inspection.

Added a large master bedroom 24'x 14' and we're completely refurbashing the bathroom with a tiled walkin shower. Kitchen is getting all new cabnets. All new carpet inside the house and some more shelfs for misc stuff in the walk-in closet.

We recently purchased a new 50" Plasma tv as well  :)

This is why not much progress has been done on my truck, this room/remodel is kicking my butt!

:woohoo: on the plasma! Our's is a 42". The living room is just too small for anything bigger.
You are really going to town on that house project! Cool.
And this is why nothing is being done on the Mammoth as well (not that he has anything that NEEDS to be done but there is always something he would like to do!)

The fabric softner worked great on the other walls with the scoring tool  but this wallpaper was applied directly to the bare sheetrock  :tantrum:, yea it riped off the paper in alot of places so now we have to re shoot the texture and paint  :smack:

We did the knock down texture in the bathroom, it really looks great. Our friend said you can do the same with the popcorn rather then taking it off.
Wet it down and spatula it. to make smooth lump texture and then paint it.

at least the entertainment center project motivated me to clean the carpet and get the living room table cleared off. I don't want to put anything in it, it looks so nice and clean. :disturbed:

When removing wallpaper I like to use 2/3 water and 1/3 vinegar.  Use a sponge and wet a area till it is translucent then take a scraper and run over it while it is still wet.  It comes right off in big sections very easily.  I have done my whole house like this and it works great easiest way I know to remove wall paper.  I like to put plastic or an old sheet on the floor that way you just pick that up and throw the whole thing away when finished.

Ryan.. if you could see the rest of the house... the bathroom is just the tip of the iceberg.. there are already a dozen other unfinished projects. It will take us two years just to finish the ones we've started.
But I think that is typical home ownership!

We finished hanging all the Wonderboard/Greenboard in the bathroom today and had a ton of fun sanding the mud smooth inside the master bedroom.

My digicam is broke or i'd post pics, might buy a new one tomorrow. If we do i'll post up some progress pics.

Oh yeah.. mud sanding is the BEST!! :ack:

Maybe there are some mud guys out there reading this. I think you can sponge in  down while its still wet so you don't have to sand it.
