What to do first?
« on: Dec 27, 2006, 08:34:35 PM »
I got a x-mas bonus and im about to order some parts. The main things are 4.7 gearset, front Aussie locker and trailready beadlocks (I work for em so thery're cheap). I have 1000-1200 to spend.

My main concern is should I do Longs before the locker and gears, Its on an 83 w/35s and stock(4.10s) gears. I want to do the gears and locker and wait for the Longs till I save some more money, I cant do all at once. I've heard guys say I'll be fine for a while but just want your opinion. Thanks.

it really depends on how you drive.... i have heard of people running 35s for years on stock components without a problem and then have heard of people breaking birfs anytime they go outside

buy the parts now then save up the money for the 30 splines and install them all at the same time, this will save you the time of taking the front apart 2 times and you will not have to worry about trail breakage.

What kind of wheeling do you do?  If you do rock garden crawling, you'll pop stock birfs very easily with locked front and 4.7 gears.  Carry spares.

I waited until I got upgraded axles before i locked my front.

Buy the longs and weld the front until you can afford an Aussie.  It will be a bit harder to turn than an Aussie, but will get the job done until then.

if you work for trailready why not wait on the beadlocks and get the longs instead?  do you really need the beadlocks right now? i'm assuming that you will still have your discount at a later date.

snowshoe makes a good point here. I would go longs first then the beadlocks
