All right guys i decided on keeping this truck so that i dont have to keep hitching rides from people while the other rig is gettin finished. to start i got the truck for free with a bad motor. its a yellow 79 longbed with know rust and so sun fadded paint.
I swapped in a rebuilt 22r and five speed into it.
the motor has a mid range cam downy headers flowmaster exhust and a new weber 34/34.
i just installed a electric puller fan in and man i got to say that is the best power option that i have ever installed on to a toy.
i am on the quest for more power and i have a 20r head that was rebuilt but snohman that ported with bigger valves and a performance cam.
so i am going to do the swap this week and i havent made up my mind on what intake i am going to use.
i have a offenhouser dual port and a stock which one do you guys think i could get the most power out of?

pics as soon as i am not at work.

:worthless:
like i said i am at work. oh yeah the main theme of the truck is it cant ever be down for longer than a weekend.
on the to do list:
Killer battery box
power steering
as said above 20r head swap.
port the stock 20r intake.
i have a set of rough contry stock lift springs for the front untill i can get hysteer and make a rear front pack.
going to get longer shackles in the rear amd move the shackle mount forward to correct shackle angle
make front shock hoops and install longer shocks
relocate rear shock mounts to fit longer shocks.
front and rear bumpers plus spare tire rack.
get stereo
get a quiter exhust
and intall tool box

Good news for me i found an 82 4x4 running and driving with less than 180,000 on it for $600 the guy says that the shifter linkages are broken but he doesent know about the shifter rebuild washers so i can use this to my advantage on price.
which means i can bob the bed now because i have been wanting to bob it but i wanted to sell it as a killer work truck so that would have been stupid for anyone else. and now all i have to do is resale this one after it gets fixed up alittle.

ok so i installed one side of these shity rough country 3" spring that i got and it sits the same on both sides still. so screw those springs i am going to build a set of rears that i wanted to do any ways that i have been kicking around for a while. i am going to flip my ball and make my own steering link untill i find a ifs box.

sweet news later to day i will have new rims and 35 in tires. i an selling the tires and wheels on there right know to pay for the up grade. i have collected two sets of free 16" tires and now all i have to do is buy some wheels.

ok so i failed on my plans to make sure it is not down for longer than a weekend. reason being is that when i went to do the head swap i ran into a problem becuase snohman had milled the 20r head exsessivley and the outer edge of the raised section of the piston hit the intake valve when i was hand rotating it to top dead center. so know that i have to modify the pistond i am going to order a set of .030 over pistons from lc engineering custom fit to the head and a set of total seal rings to get some more hp out of this thing. and i will have pics of the new truck that i got for $550.

:hammerhead:  that sucks,  make sure when you notch those pistons  you use a scale  and make sure they are as close to the same weight as possible

yeah i allready sold the bule one to a guy at work for 1800. all i have to do is repaint it. so if i paid 550 and the only things that needed to be fixed were new shifter boot, new shifter seat and nub, paint and oil changes from front to back. cost of paint to match factory blue is $250 and the shifter seat was $20 and all new oils was about 50 bucks. total my costs were $870 so i am making 930 to repaint a truck.

also put it back together and installed my lc header and wire loom. also while i was at it i painted the valve cover, and changed out the distrubutar which got rid of a noise that was bothering me. there is a pic of the electric fan. oh yeah and i had to put a flow master on it.

Nice, I like that wire loom. That fan works really good with that modified shroud. Your gonna need some more stopping power to slow that thig down. :burnout: What is the bracket/cable tucked up by the heater hose?

it is freakin' cold i shouldent be working on this thing right now but i drank a bunch of red bull when it was sunny out and i can stop. i installed a 1.5" body lift on the cab just to see if i could drive it around for awhile. it didnt work so i am doing the rear pack up front with ubolt flip kit and ball flip so far it is working out ok. looks like i am going to have to make flat shackles on inch longer and a 1 inch drop hanger to be able to bottom out the rears once bump stops are installed. be back later to give pics.

pic of the shackle angle. it is not maxed out yet. tomarow i am going to build a drop hanger that is one inch forward and one inch down.i think that will fix it.
and some of the fender gap look's like.

I don't think so because the WB of the truck is still too long even though the crawler box has been added.  Maybe somebody else will chime in.

Travota

I needed to have mine redone but I had a two piece shaftmy guess would be no, the crawl box is 6.5" and the wheelbase difference is about 10" I think, right?? I could measure my shaftnext time I get a chance to give you an Idea.

all right i have been real busy on this thing and got some pics of it all. it started when i removed the j arm to rotate the ball and when i did this the knuckle bearing broke inside. i could have just rebuilt that one side and it would have been fine but i would have rather rebuilt it completely with all new gussets. so i stole the front axle out of the nija build and put it under here becuase it has 1.5 wheel spacers cross drilled and sloted rotors new calipers and pad's it's ben rotated and to much for duals and a longer tranny and it is fully rebuilt. also the axle is redrilled 3/4 off center to move it forward more. this combination adds up to 3" forward of stock with first gen rears plus redrilled axle.

pics of the new axle.

status report is that this thing drives nice, but  its under powered agin with the installation of the 35"s working on a tempary steering stabliser until i get hysteer i cant stand break steer. also i am desinging bumpstop extensions and shock hoops.

i was wondering if you can use v6 gears in a 4cly housing becuase i have a set of 4.56 that are still good that came out of a donar housing.
